Appaloosa Sports Bar — Restaurant in Abu Dhabi

I was about to give 4 stars, however, we had a strange bad experience. Disappointing. We ordered the pork knuckle and English breakfast for 2 people. I know that the pork knuckle would be good for 2 to 3, or even for 4 people as it has canny amount of side dishes, however, since I was craving for the crispy pork knuckle, I decided to order it. And my fiance' had the English breakfast. The food was alright. The pork knuckle was bit salty, but the pickled papaya complement it, the dumplings were nice. The service was good. The pork knuckle was almost untouched, so we decided for a take-out (they took it from our table, and we assumed it was prepared inside their kitchen). I didn't check it, as we never experienced any issues with take-aways if at times there are plenty of left-over from the meal(s). This place is local to me and I really want to like it and visit it regularly. But sadly I do not. I have visited it about 8 times pre covid and whilst restrictions have been in place and it's been the same every time. The decor and layout is airy, modern and nice however there is something wrong with the ventilation which means that the smoke from the smoking area and pool room is drawn through the non smoking part of the restaurant making the whole place smell strongly of smoke. The waiter service is diabolically slow - I don't know whether they have do not have enough staff or they have a very long trip to the kitchens or they are not interested in serving the guests but getting a waiters attention to be served and "re-served" is virtually impossible and very frustrating. We went for a full English breakfast on Saturday the 13th of April.

The place opened at 10:00. It's a sports bar, a little musty smelling as there's smoking in one section.

The place was infested with mosquitos. I mean, I live in Abu Dhabi and know that it can be bad, but within 3 minutes of sitting at the table, I'd been bitten twice, and they were hovering around my kids. I had to go to the shop in reception and purchase some repellant, but they really need to fog the place.

When the waiter handed my wife her bacon bap, she burnt her hand on the plate to the point it blistered. Seems the food and plate were sat under a heat lamp or something, really disappointing.
