If you chose to hold your funeral tea with The Fourmile, Kingswells I suggest you do so with caution and make sure that you obtain written confirmation.
It’s a long story but in short, when I booked a tea following the passing of my Dad I was quoted £7.45 per person (for 50 people). When I paid I was charged £10.45 for 54 people.
When phoning to query I was told that that was not possible, £7.45 was the price two years ago. The lady I spoke with would phone me back so that she could discuss with the lady (Jana) who took the booking.
I then received a phone call the next day telling me no, it was definitely £10.45 and that the lady I was speaking with was sitting with Jana typing it up onto her spreadsheet while she was on the phone with me (she did not know who had taken the booking the day before mind).
I was then told that I must have misheard Jana, or perhaps it was a bad line. That ultimately the mistake was mine, and mine alone.
Based on the fact that I was being blamed and that there was little to no thought of potential reimbursement, perhaps a good will gesture or any other possible option, I decided to say that I could see there was going to be no movement on the matter and said goodbye.
So, if you do decide to book any function of significance, please ask for written confirmation so as to avoid disappointment during what is already going to be a difficult time.
I include the notes I took on my Google Keep app below, by way of showing where my head was at whilst preparing for my Dads passing at 56 years young;

Read moreWent for a pre christmas family lunch. Was very busy with christmas parties and few tables rather squashed together so was very loud but that was nothing major to worry. Was little annoyed menu was more variety on it as limited to a December menu which had a good selection but not enough. When we got food it was hit and presented lovely, the main problem came in husbands gammon and my burger. The gammon roast had 3 small cuts of gammon which was not even equivalent to one slice of turkey on my mothers plate. Also he has 3 slices carrot and one tiny cauliflower and broccoli stem, where she had a good selection veg and roasts full works. I know he didn't have all the trimmings but for £17 expect more than 3 small ends of gammon and 3 carrots. My burger was amazing juicy the only little problem was the bun was very dry and lettuce was rather horrible on the bun, there was no option of onion, or side salad on the plate so kinda looked sad a burger and basket of chips. The burger originally come with no cheese either so kinda felt robbed for price to get juice burger but dry bun and no flooring in between and wilted salad. Everyone loved the desert and the lemon and raspberry posset was a hit for my mother but did underwhelm us to what we expected and been told about the place, kinda felt over priced for some things. May return after christmas and take it as a hiccup with so many parties and being the...
Read moreThis is a beautiful and very popular dog-friendly cafe that I stumbled across after an epic 7 hours of travelling.
The staff really made a fuss of our canine friends when they arrive and they really seem to enjoy the place.
Fourmile was spotlessly clean and I was guided to a table.
The uncluttered menu had plenty of variety without being overbearing. I chose from the daily specials menu. Pea and mint soup for starter and a jacket potato with coronation chicken filling.
The soup was the best tasting soup that I have had in a very long time. It had the perfect consistency and the peas tasted amazing and were perfectly complimented by the mint that waltzed on my tastebuds just enough to let you know it was also adding to the taste experience but not dominating it. The perfectly baked sourdough bread mopped up the soup perfectly. One clear plate ✔️
Then came a large, fluffy jacket potato with a delicious crispy skin topped with a generous portion of the spiced creaminess of the coronation chicken. All accompanied with a fresh portion salad.
I touched on the first class cleanliness and I have to credit the staff for the cleanest gents loos that I have seen anywhere (and moisturiser too was a bonus)! This is the standard for the WC's. Well done.
All this deliciousness and change from a £20 note. (Well a small tip for the staff).
Excellent and I will definitely aim to return if I ever wander...
