Me and my mother have been coming here for years, But in all these years we have never ever had a meal ever like the one we had on this occasion We both ordered the New York chicken with fries and peas,1 with no barbecue sauce and mine in a little pot on the side.Nearly 30 mins later our meals came out by a waitress who didn't really look like she wanted to be there....Well me and my mum just looked at each other in disbelief, the chicken was black around the edges and also under the cheese, not because of any barbecue sauce as I had it in a small pot.i cut into the chicken,it was so hard and dry, my mum said exactly the same ,it actually looked like someone's left over chicken which originally had barbecue sauce on it then had cheese topped on it again and grilled again and again and the cheese in the bottom of the dish was totally different to the cheese over the chicken (i really would like an answer why it was black around the chicken) i did get one tiny piece of bacon on top of the chicken which had a tiny piece of melted cheese on it which also looked out of place (totally different to the cheese around my chicken). My mum didn't get any bacon at all on her chicken and i thought it was supposed to come with bacon wrapped around it..Now the fries,,were they somebody's left overs and fried up again because i really would like an explanation to why some of the fries were black ,hard and inedible ever served,,some of the fries were just small pieces ,it really had made me think what goes off in these kitchens(the thought of it makes me feel sick) and just looking at the pictures makes me feel sick. These plates of food should of been served straight in the BIN. I had to go to the bar and tell the barman/manager about our meals, i asked him to come and have a look at our meals, He did ask us if we wanted something else but we said no and I asked for a refund..I was offered a full refund by the chap who acted very professional . I think they definitely need new staff or retraining . The food may be cheap and cheerful here but we got disgusting and inedible ,we not be going here again or in the near future. ..ive sent 2 emails and both have come back as being...
Read moreI have been going here for years with my family. We as a family have always chosen this place over most as we loved it so much.
The food on the last few visits have been really disappointing. Didn't have half the items on the menu for the kids so ended up having to order different.
I ordered the sirloin steak medium well. My plate was absolutely soaked in juice that was that bad i needed 4 napkins to mop it up. The steak tasted funny, the peas were undercooked and the chips portion was really small, the food also arrived cold. The kids chips portion was bigger than ours. The peppercorn sauce was sour and I had a bad stomach for 2 days after eating here.
My partner ordered half a chicken from the sizzler menu. The plate never came out sizzling, it was cold, the peppers and onions were luke warm. The chicken wasn't very nice as it was really dry. My daughter ordered the sausages off the kids menu which should have come with gravy and it wasn't brought out. We had to ask for the gravy and the extra side salad we had ordered because they had forgot.
The waiting staff you can not fault. Some of the waiting staff go above and beyond. The bar staff and the manager can be very rude except one lady who is an older lady. Our food came to £54 and when my partner went to order more drinks and ask for our desserts as we was waiting for nearly 20 minutes for them to clear our plates after we had finished our main. She queued up for nearly 10 minutes and when she was served and asked about the desserts she was told "next time ask the waiting staff" this is not our jobs.
How can such a beautiful popular hungry horse restaurant treat its customers like that? A one off meal you can maybe understand especially if its busy and the quality before was very high but we have been very disappointed the past 3 times and my kids didn't enjoy their food. My 5 year old daughter said the peas were hard and her food was cold.
We won't be returning unless some changes are made. Hungry horse used to be one of the best restaurants to visit for quality and quantity but it's gone majorly downhill. This restaurant has the potential to be special and as a fully qualified chef I...
Read moreThis rating is a shame as I go here quite regular and never had a problem. We were looking forward to a birthday meal for my Grandma on boxing day, my sister booked in October with Tina and paid the deposit for 11 people. We all chose our meals before hand so they could be ordered in for the day. We got there at 2:15 and were told there was no booking. Tina was there and was adamant she did not take the booking but her name was on the receipt and my sister recognised her from paying the deposit. We had to wait around for half an hour while they tried to find us a table, bearing in mind my Grandma is 86 and can't stand for long periods of time. Eventually, our booking was found as it was on a different system (maybe just have one system?!) we sat down at the table at around 2:50. The staff member said the capacity was 210, they had overbooked and had to seat 260. Sorry, not our problem! Again, our food order was not found so we had to wait longer for this to be sorted. When they did find the order, one of the meals was out of stock so had to choose something else - not ideal when it was pre-ordered months before. We waited a further hour for our food to arrive, despite other tables arriving after us and getting their food before us. By this point we were ready to walk out but was told we wouldn't get our deposit back if we did! Unbelievable! The young waiter had to break the news that the majority of our desserts were also out of stock, like I said above, how can this happen when we have pre-booked our meals?! We decided to leave the puddings and get the bill, no discount was offered, and an insincere apology from the staff. My Grandma's birthday was ruined. We will not be returning...
