We used to come to Edgecumbes all the time, we haven't been lately and was looking forward to getting a great coffee as from knowing previously, the coffee here is lovely and it's always been an enjoyable experience
We arrived and unfortunately it wasn't that enjoyable
We waited in the coffee shop for quite a while as there was only one barista on today, she passed me my coffee and said 'i think that's the one with vanilla in it and that's ummm that's that one' and didn't even seem to know what she'd made (I believe this was because she was very busy as no other staff around) at the same time a doorbell kept going off I think 3 times and she came across very rushed
I then joined my husband in the shop whilst he waited for someone to come and take his order for his ground coffee he wanted to buy. I then realized they were even more short staffed as there were 5 customers all waiting for the same thing and again the shop worker was rushing around.
I then noticed the bell that kept going off was all the customers pressing it as there wasn't even staff in there in the first place. Felt sorry for the staff as was very busy.
Shame as we are used to the service being attentive and enjoying a good coffee....

As a regular anyway (due to their delicious coffee and tasty sausage rolls) I enquired about hosting a baby shower here as we wanted something slightly more low key and local to everyone. Stewart was fabulous at coming up with menu suggestions, being sure to include favourites within the options. The team helped us set up and displayed the cakes wonderfully with such generous portions (cakes are locally sourced too!) so much so, we sent everyone home with a bag of cakes! We had a wonderful young man stay on as they stayed open after hours for us and he served us up some of their yummy drinks on offer. The whole team are so wonderfully friendly and were so helpful from start to finish! I will 100% be recommending to others needing a venue to enquire here. Such good value to compared to others in the area, with the added bonus of locally sourced products.
Another plus, which is why it became one of my regular spots, was due to it being super dog friendly, meaning the dog can come and enjoy a...
Read moreUsed to be a regular at weekends as good coffee and café staff friendly - but today sitting in 'conservatory' having coffee, sandwich and cake. Sandwich which wasn't cheap at over £6.00 for a toasty but, you get what you pay for.....but, that aside, the whole experience was ruined by 'Dexter' a staff members son running around, we aren't anti kids, but went there for nice coffee, setting and service rather than a Costa.
But we would understand if a customers child, kids are kids, but also another staff member and the parent were shuffling chairs and furniture and taking down lights around us, whilst we are sat there, scrapping chairs about and moving hanging lights all around us which totally spoilt the experience......they only had to wait 10 minutes until we left......such a shame as a simple thing to fix, wait till no customers around. Whilst writing this, I appreciate it sounds petty and it is really, but when you pay more than a large Coffee chain its not unreasonable to expect a good experience. Sorry but thought...
