I'm not a "Champagne at lemonade prices" kind of guy and I expect to get what you pay for. However the experience I had here with my friend yesterday was awkward and I can't wait for the food to become a distant memory. We were sat down reluctantly by a lady who seemed nice enough but out of place in a restaurant. I felt guilty for even daring to arrive as we were given a time limit on how long we could have the table for due to it belonging to somebody else later that evening. The table service was more than satisfactory, and the drinks were bought quickly and skillfully. Except that my knife was taken away when I ordered a mixed grill. When the food came I had no knife so had to steal one from the table next door. This was rather funny as the missing knife had a domino effect. Table by table there was a knife missing as each group sat at a new table ad slyly pinched one.
Now the food. My friend had to replace his pie as the crust was rock hard. This was done quickly and politely by efficient staff as the restaurant Matron was on a break. The 'Signature' mixed grill was kind of nondescript. Everything looked like it had just been rescued from the brink of being burned. Nothing on the plate was all that nice as far as the meat was concerned. The quality of the food was fine, it was the way it had been slung on the grill and dished out in a carefree manner without anyone taking any care to see how nice it was which let it down. We hoped nobody asked how our meals were as we didn't want to sound like we were complaining. But eventually somebody did and my friend mentioned his very tough to eat pie which even second time around wasn't totally edible by the time it was room temperature. The waitress now being back from her break didn't take the news too well and started to blame the batch of pies. (I find this incredibly annoying when a simple "sorry" would have been fine). I didn't dare mention to her that the mixed grill was cooked in such a way that I only ate it because I didn't want to look at it one moment longer than I had to. Replacing it would have been too much fuss considering the time restrictions on our table. I don't think I'll bother going back again unless the waitress were to accept that the reason the food was bad was because it wasn't cooked with...
Read moredon't like writing bad reviews but the service and food were, well I can't even find the words. When we arived I should have know it wouldn't be good as we were greeted by who I think was the manager, who can't possibly have an iron as his sher looked as if he had just got it from the bottom of the ironing baskets, his trousers looked as if he had had them on all week so not a good impression. We had booked a table for the restaurant, but were seated in the bar, which was OK, given menu's. He came back and got our drinks order. We ordered out food, which considering thier was us 4 an 2 others took nearly an hour to come out. We ordered 1 rare steak, 1 medium steak, gammon and pineapple, and burger and chips. When our steaks and chips arived the chips were dark brown with some light and you could see the oil in side the chips where they had been sitting in old cold oil and some fresh ones added to the dirty oil. I tasted one and had to spit it out I cut in the the rare steak not a sign of pink meat. He then proceed to bring cutlery an other meal, on placing the cutlery down he knocked over 3/4 of pint of beer over the table and me. To which he did say sorry, I asked for blue roll, which he got and stood thier watching as we tried to stop what was left on the table going over me any more. It was over my jumper, my jeans, it had even gone through to my pants, and over my new coat. He continued to watch as I tried to clean and sort my self out, if that had been any one he gave a dam he would have helped and continued to apologise profusely, but not a word. So I said that we could not expect the food and why, and the his attitude toward the hole experience was not acceptable, he did say he would no charge us for our drink. 2 pints of bear one over me and a small glass of wine. I don't blame him entirely as the area manager has to take so of the...
Read moreNot quite up to scratch on a quiet Saturday. First of all we booked a table for 2 for 3.45pm. On arrival there was just another couple in the dining area. We were shown to a small 2 seater table just inside. It was quite dark. I asked if we could have a larger table in a lighter area. The young man went to check. Whilst he was gone, the couple opposite said they had the same issue and had been originally offered this table and had to plead to be given another one. He came back but said that the only other table we could have was the 2 seater next to it. When challenged he said all the others were booked out for larger parties arriving shortly. (About 15 minutes later the next guests, another couple only, arrived and were immediately shown to one of the larger tables and in fact the 4 seater table I asked if we might have - yes you guessed right - was given to a couple. In the 2 hours we were there, all patrons who arrived to dine were couples only the exception being one couple who arrived with a child.) Anyway, there were issues with missing items from both my starter and main course and a substitution of items from the menu. The starter I only realised when I actually saw the menu again and brought this to our servers attention when she returned to take the main plates. To cut a long story short, I eventually spoke with Ezra and we both discussed how their procedures and communication between kitchen staff/servers could be improved going forward. Ezra was very apologetic, accepting that we had been let down with the food and to her credit she did offer us free desserts and took both our starters off the bill completely. Whilst that was a generous gesture, it was not our aim to receive such a discount. Purely because of the way Ezra dealt with all this, we will return in the...
