Requested by email a table of four on a Friday evening, advising one of the group has mobility issues. Confirmation was received quickly. When we arrived, we found the solitary disabled space was available. The rest of the pubs small car park was already full, and vehicles were parked along both sides of the road. The venue was very busy, which is generally a good sign, although it did mean a few minutes wait until we were approached. There is a restaurant, however, we were seated at one of the numerous tables in the bar area (closer to the accessible toilet). Jen (landlady) and Andrew (landlord) are both incredibly welcoming. They, along with their team of servers, are attentive and helpful. Each one treated our disabled guest as a human being, speaking to him and not around him. The menu has something for every taste, and although £25.50 may sound excessive for a pub meal, it was the most delicious fillet steak, cooked perfectly, with the fluffiest chunky chips! Other mains were a more reasonable £11 - £17. There was a long delay between ordering and our meals arriving. This may have been less noticeable if we had ordered starters? Our group all chose something different; pork belly with crackling, veg & dauphinoise potatoes (polished off and almost licked the dish), scampi, fries & salad (overcooked, almost charred scampi, and disappointed it didn't come with the chunky chips), Moroccan chicken kebabs, rice & flatbread (from daily specials board, wonderful flavours, although a bit skimpy with the chicken). Personally, I don't like eating food off of boards, slates, or anything else that isn't crockery; the steak was served on a bread board. Ample portion size (apart from the kebabs mentioned previously). Only two of our party could manage dessert. Both opted for the white chocolate cheesecake, and both cleared their plate. We all agreed it's a lovely pub, with lovely staff, and lovely food. We will definitely visit again, although the guest who chose scampi would, without hesitation, select fillet steak next time! Highly...
Read moreWe booked a table for 4 adults for Sunday lunch at 5pm. As soon as we walked in we got a friendly welcome from one of the female staff members who showed us to our table. We ordered 3 roast beef’s and a creamy chicken and mushroom pie. My daughter’s partner is lovely but fussy about veg and the roast dinners included cabbage which he doesn’t like. I asked the waitress if they’d possibly be able to provide a portion of peas and it was no problem at all. She even listed the beers and ales so my husband didn’t need to go to the bar to look at what was on offer and she was very knowledgeable about the cocktails. We waited around 15 mins for our food which was about right for us and it was absolutely worth the wait! The beef was beautifully cooked as was the veg and I know some people like mash or new potatoes with their Sunday lunch, but for me, a roast is only complimented with roast potatoes. There wasn’t any mash or a new potato in sight leaving room for an extra roastie so I was delighted! They were totally stunning! Crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. I also asked for extra gravy which was no issue, we got a separate boat of it and it was absolutely delicious and really full of flavour. The veg and parsnips were also cooked to perfection. My husband’s pie was succulent and he said it was super tasty. The pastry was well cooked and flaky and definitely home made. None of this pre made stuff you sometimes get. The portion sizes were also generous. I’m from Worthing originally but have lived up north for over a decade and appreciate the prices down here are higher. I was expecting something very good for the price that I was paying and it did not disappoint. Both my daughter and her partner who live here said they’ll be recommending it and when I come back to Worthing I’ll be back. Fabulous staff offering a brilliant service and the food...
