Absolutely disappointed!
I went there a couple years ago and had a fantastic Sunday roast. A friend of mine came to visit me from another country for the weekend, and since I had a fantastic roast in this pub some time ago, I suggested we go cycling there from Brighton. Upon arrival, we got turned away for not having a reservation - we were just two - I said to the girl working there that we have literally been cycling for four hours from Brighton just to eat there, we were both starving and so looking forward to it, she literally didn’t care. Fake hypocrite ‘I’m sorry, there’s nothing we can do.’ No empathy, no humanity at all, I asked a couple times, it was disgusting behaviour. Your Sunday roast may have been great, but not coming again nor recommending to friends for this attitude.
Edit: I have not been rude to your member of staff at any point. I simply explained to her twice, that we’ve been cycling for four hours, and asked in final attempt if we can be seated at the bar. It’s one thing to defend your position, another to gaslight your customers. We were upset, but I haven’t spoken to her in any kind of disrespectful way.
I used the word ‘inhumane’ because me and my friend had super low blood sugar levels, nearly fainting, because we cycled for four hours, of course I don’t expect you or the member of staff to know that. But all I’m saying we couldn’t get back in a car and go to wherever. Anyway, your venue sucks, seeing how my review is going to be twisted to be in the wrong and gaslighted for being rude and angry, when that was never the case. We were super disappointed...
Read moreI Decided to book this as a treat for my partners Mum, as the reviews were so good. We were all sadly disappointed! We walked in and the place was busy so we obviously had no issue having to wait at the entrance to be seated, but we were totally ignored by at least 3 staff members who walked past and didn't even acknowledge us, not even a simple "hello". Finally seated, we asked for some water and one of the glasses had a lot of lipstick on it. These things happen so that wasn't the issue really but with everything at the moment it made us a little uneasy. The actual issue was the way your staff acted when it was mentioned he just grunted, no apology or anything which felt a bit rude. The Roast itself was cold and bland and as a side note I would recommend having more then one Vegetarian option. Our empty plates were left on the table for around 15 minutes after we had finished and during this time we could quite clearly see staff members behind the bar talking and facing our general direction but just not checking our table. We then had to ask them ourselves to clear the table. As my partner paid for the meal his Dad gave a tip, which I thought was generous to be honest, this was taken without even a thank you. Customer service goes a long way, I know these are strange times for all of us but this was incredibly...
Read moreThe food is really good and portions are large, especially dessert portions. Burgers are really nice course ground patties, rather than finely ground, so nicer coarse texture that I prefer. Some unusual choices on the menu which were successful too, such as lamb tacos. These worked well but were slightly smaller portions. Could have probably eaten 3 instead of 2. But desserts afterwards could all have served two people. Pavlova the size of a dinner plate and really rich chocolate brownies that were great but we struggled to finish. Service was really attentive and genuinely friendly. We were going to eat outside as they were full inside but a double booking meant we were moved and it was no trouble to them. Really nice atmosphere inside. Garden is OK but the wood chip on the ground could do with a refresh. There was nowhere to park within 400yds of the pub, but was worth the walk from roadside parking. Findon seems incredibly busy for parking. Something to bear if you have someone infirm with you. But really enjoyed our meal and left feeling it was pretty good value and that we'd had a...
