The Lamb Inn is a lovely old place. Our room was fantastic and we made our way into dinner. We were a late table eating at 7.45pm. The menu was outstanding, the food looked delicious and was plated professionally. We were not overly impressed with the dryness and overcooked taste of the food. Both main dishes came with the same ‘orange’ sauce/gravy. We gave detailed feedback to our server and had a long conversation with the manager about how they could make small changes to bring the meals up to an incredible standard. We insisted we were not looking for a free meal and expected to be charged for everything we ordered. The next morning breakfast was really good. Well presented with great quality ingredients cooked well. The waiting staff at dinner and breakfast were lovely. We packed up, left the room to walk to the reception. We had an outside room so we had to walk on a large pavement. A large silver BMW type car mounted the pavement and came very close to us as we carried our bags to reception. N elderly, thin guy with greying hair got out and followed us in. I went to the bar and the Brazilian waitress said to me ‘there has been a few changes which you will see’. I looked at the bill and could see we had not been charged for the pork, the chips and a couple of glasses of wine. I was surprised and said ‘oh! You did not charge us for the main. I wasn’t expecting that’. The old guy appeared and was most disgruntled. He wanted to know everything and started asking the waitress and myself what had happened. I told him I had given detailed feedback last night and was not about to go into it again but explained that the food was not up to standard. He was not having any of it and said ‘that’s not usual for us’ etc., etc., went on a bit more and made me feel like I was in the wrong for daring to disagree. He walked off. The waitress said ‘he’s the owner’. I said ‘I think your manager is going to get it in the neck for discounting the bill.
The ridiculous thing about this experience is that we had decided we would never come back and stay but if we did we would eat somewhere else. After the amazing display of generosity from the management we were so taken aback that we felt we would come back and stay but after the behaviour of the owner giving me and the waitress the third degree which was unnecessary, embarrassing and uncomfortable we are giving a low rating. He really should have allowed me to leave and then...
Read moreExceptional excellence without compromise.|On arrival I was greeted by very friendly and helpful staff both on reception and in the bar.|My room was spotlessly clean and well provided to allow for a perfect nights sleep in an extremely comfortable bed.|Downstairs the bar had a good selection of beers and an even more impressive selection of wines, all of which can be served by the glass at very reasonable prices. The restaurant is well spaced out enabling private conversations not to be overheard, which can be useful!|Menu selection was amazing. I started with Duck Hash Browns topped with a hens egg and garnish, a unique local favourite. This I followed with Venison and accompanying vegetables, the best Venison that I have tasted for many years.|Next morning the breakfast choice was equally as inspiring and excellent.|I cannot speak highly enough of the chef and staff. I would consider the food and service to be at least five star if not Michelin quality at what must be the best Gastro Pub in the whole of Sussex, East and West all at very reasonable prices.|I highly recommend a visit. I cannot...
Read moreI have stayed at the Lamb several times over the last few years and have had a delightful stay. My visit last week was not so good sadly and that's probably my fault as I neglected to book a premium room (I wasn't given an option on the site that we booked with)||The room that we had was very tired although somewhat clean but needed a total revamp.; empty screw holes in the shower and no leg room on the loo. The carpet leading to the bedroom has a horrible stain and the owners need to address this.||My Partner had breakfast and said it was fantastic; however there was confusion at lunch. The Lamb advertises as dog friendly, but apparently not in the restaurant. It was my Mothers 87th Birthday and whilst the food was amazing, there was a rather annoyed atmosphere. Perhaps just say that dogs are welcome in the Bar area to avoid confusion,||I love the Lamb, however I think that it's maybe time to re-invest and tidy it up, I didn't enjoy my stay this time sadly but I hope that you can get it back to the wonderful standards of a...
