Recently visited on a Saturday lunchtime with 4 other family. There was a faintly unpleasant smell in the conservatory..a bit like a loo smell? We had booked a table and we were seated next to a largish, quite noisy Birthday Party. This wouldn't have been a problem other than the lack of space between the tables and also the chunky chairs meant that both they and us were squashed for the duration of the meal. The chair behind me kept bumping mine when they stood up for photos etc. There were only 1 or 2 other diners there,so they really could have put us somewhere with more room. I had the Liver and Bacon Special which was delicious and generous and piping hot, with lovely vegetables. 2 of the party had the Burgers which looked top quality and they said were very nice. Regrettably the burger on the child's menu was the usual poor quality relation. The other person had a decent looking Ploughman's. Puddings were fine other than a very small sized Eton Mess, which at ยฃ6.50 for just a few strawberries (I believe it had said "summer berries") meringue and cream, really was overpriced. I shared this view with the waitress who said there wasn't much you could do with Eton Mess.....I suggested a larger portion in a larger glass would be a start! Drinks were also somewhat overpriced but all in all, a nice meal and will...
ย ย ย Read moreReally sorry but our experience was awful. Attended with 4 friends for Christmas meal. No atmosphere in the conservatory at all. No music playing. Two of us ordered the quorn roast. The amount of food would have just filled one plate. No bread sauce no cranberry until I asked for it no Yorkshireโs no pigs in blankets. I was quite shocked when I saw what was presented. I had to ask for mine to be heated up as only luke warm. Asked for yorkshires but they donโt cook them during the week. A friend had very little gravy and had to ask for more. Even with meat eaters there was no jus and not enough gravy. Error made with serving so two friends had theirs served approx 10 mins after the rest. Altogether it was very sad as used to be a beautiful pub with lovely restaurant. When I went to complain I was greeted by a manager who was very much on the defensive and made me feel it was all my fault. Not a...
ย ย ย Read moreThree of us booked our first lunch at this pub on a Thursdayand we were all wowed by the experience. Points to note:- A small sign on a bend 50 yards from the pub makes sure you don't miss this tucked away gem. A large light and warm, added on, dinning room with really comfy chairs awaits. But there is also a more traditional area in the bar. The menu is well thought out with plenty of choice. We were impressed by the "Toad in the hole" with very tasty butchers sausages. "Beef Bourguignon" was also a great choice. I went for the "Cow burger," in a large sesame bun with all the trimmings, it was probably the best burger meal I have had - with perfect chunky chips. We did manage some dessert but the mains portions were generous enough. Good real ale and coffee were a welcome addition. Service was prompt and done with a smile. Quite simply the best pub meal in a long while. Well done to...
