I'll never learn - I went there last night 10/11/17 as we needed to eat locally and didn't have much time, I had chicken Tikka (Curry night on Thursdays), my wife had bangers and mash - mash was instant and cold and a pile of frozen peas (she doesn't eat garden peas and no alternative offered), my curry was poor, microwaved rice (big clumps, steaming hot in one part, cold in another), the curry was the same but very rubbery chicken hot in some parts, cold in others, and it tasted like a £1 Sharwoods frozen TiKka but not as good. The naan was microwaved as well so it stuck to the plate and was very chewy. My life left most of hers, it was inedible - I left most of mine - I'll strike this pub off my list from now on, it's much better to go many more places nearby, I've had some great curries in pubs and while everything might not be perfect you often find the quality is much better for perhaps £1 or £2 more. Previously I wrote (from my review in 2015) I normally go to Wetherspoons for the Tuesday steak nights which are pretty good but we popped in today for Sunday lunch. It says hand carved beef - if that's hand carved then I'm the Pope. Microwaved veg, frozen roast spuds (and Yorkshire puds), a small pot of gravy, the meat was chewy, half the plate cold and half hot (microwave warm up). Considering £5.49 + £1.50 to "go large" it's much better to spend a little more and go Toby.
I'll probably keep having the odd steak night here but won't have a Sunday dinner - shockingly poor level of food. I left almost half, my wife left even more - avoid unless you like microwaved poor quality food that's over and under cooked at...
Read moreThis place used to be amazing and the food was half decent but now it's really bad! The breakfast is ok but when you order other food like pizzas or steaks etc the quality has really gone downhill. At least that has been my experience. Sometimes you may get a decent meal but most of the time it's not that great. I don't mind paying higher prices if the quality of the food is still the same but unfortunately it is not. I still visit regularly just to drink the coffee in the daytime as it's really cheap (£1.05) with free refills and it's consistent. The alcohol drinks and soft drinks are very reasonably priced too. A pint of Ruddles for example can be got for £1.77 which is amazing. The staff are very helpful and when you do order food or drinks they arrive quite quickly. It's really a shame that the food is way more expensive than it used to be while sacrificing quality too. For years I have praised JD Wetherspoons as I think they have tried to keep town centres alive and offering good service and atmosphere for many of our dying town centres. They also provide a place for families and old people to go who may be lonely otherwise. Hope this...
Read moreNormally like this place but tonight 23rd May 2024 the place was appalling, it wasn't busy so that isn't an excuse, the top part nearer the bar end was disgraceful, 8 tables for nearly an hour was just left with food, plates, bowls and glasses for nearly an hour, people's tables were piling up with empty glasses and not room for more they were drinking, no one was clearing tables just bringing more food or drinks out, an hour passed and one of the staff wheeled a trolley out to start clearing really slow, another staff member was just walking around picking up the odd few glasses giving out dirty looks, when a table was finally cleaned it was wiped down and stuff just brushed on the floor, they were handling dirty plates and bring out other stuff for people with dirty cloths in there hands, I like this place and it's normally good but the staff on tonight didn't give a damn, just because the place is being sold does not mean the customer service and cleanliness...
