We visited the George yesterday for a quick evening meal. The restaurant was full of people and we soon realised why. The food was exceptional! To our amazement, we were treated to an amuse bouche, something one only gets in high-end restaurants. The menu looked exciting and the food we chose was delicious. The prices were really good too. The bustling atmosphere of the restaurant further attested to the Chef Jim's remarkable talent and culinary expertise. Needless to say, we left the George thoroughly delighted and already making plans for our next visit.

This was my first visit to this community run and owned pub. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The food was exquisite and is made using locally sourced ingredients. I don’t eat meat but had quite a choice from the menu. It is one of those places where you get food envy when other people’s selections arrive. Presentation is beautiful. They have a great wine list. We were all drinking different wines and all pleased. My tipple is Malbec… my eyebrows went up … a seriously nice glass of wine. I will definitely be returning

Avoid this one! A friend and I arrived at lunchtime to be refused as fully booked. Incredibly, the pub was half empty. See photos. The other room was even less full. Luckily, we moved to the Bull just a few yards up the road and had a great service. The management at the George could do with some lessons from their superior neighbour.

I have been searching for an amazing British pub meal and I found it here at The George. The food was phenomenal with sourdough bread with home made butter and an amuse bouche that just made my taste buds explode. The starters looked beautiful but small (my eyes are bigger than my stomach), which I was worried about... then I took a bite and I was once again taken aback with powerful flavour and warmth of autumn, this was the miso roasted leeks with truffle and crispy egg yolk. Just wow. For my mains I had the pork belly and with how well the first plates where I had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed, if anything I was even more pleased by the different flavors and textures put into this meal. I also found out all the meat is bought from the local village butchers, which adds a cozy element to this community pub. I can't wait to come back for more meals with my family! Fantastic work from everyone...

Positives - nicely decorated, good selection of drinks, delicious desserts. Negatives - we were not impressed with our main course. "Fish and chips with minted pea puree and homemade tartare sauce." The chips were fries, like I'd expect in a happy meal at McDonald's. The presentation was poor, and we had to remind them about the tartare sauce, which was then shared between 2/3. I didn't raise any complaints as our meals were being paid for by a friend as a treat and I didn't want to upset them, but if I had personally been paying £16 for this plate of food, I'd have been extremely...

Just popped in to see what the pub is like now that it has re-opened. Am so glad we did.

Was greeted by a friendly atmosphere, and found the decor to be nice, with a clean but ‘country’ feel to it. The two ladies serving were very welcoming, and seemed enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the impressive range of drinks on tap (was pleased to see normal Guinness on draught, rather than the inferior Extra Cold version).

Will definitely be back soon to sample more of the drinks, and food when we have more time (I’ve awarded any stars for this, as we didn’t eat...
