I rang the week before my visit to Old Moor Tavern to request the round table in the conservatory. The waitress that took my call said they didn't always use that if they weren't busy enough, so I asked for the round table near the double doors in the main bit. I'm aware it's quiz night on a Wednesday, & that it starts at 7:30pm, but we were meeting at 5pm so I didn't anticipate that being an issue. When I arrived I saw that someone else were sat at the table, & that we'd been moved into the separate bit after all, but not on the round table. That were joined up to a really long table so they obvs had a party booked in. I thought maybe it were because the people sat at the table I had reserved, had stayed a lot longer than they'd anticipated. Turns out that my friends had arrived 10 mins before me, & the people they'd put on our table arrived 5 minutes after them. When I questioned this I were told that they can't always reserve tables, especially on quiz night. I said well maybe I should have been told this when I booked, but it didn't explain why she'd put one woman & a child on that particular round table, when there were hardly anyone in at that point. I told her I were aware it were quiz night, but that we only intended staying a couple of hours, so we'd be gone before quiz night started. She'd looked really agitated that I were questioning her. Didn't even try to apologise or anything. Just said "Well we have regulars" đŽ. I were dumbfounded, & honestly didn't know what to say at that without causing a huge scene. I mean it's not exactly how to welcome less regular customers that may end up becoming regular is it! I've recommended that place to so many friends & clients since going for the first time last year, & going since. I could kick myself now I know how they treat people. I were fuming, & it really spoiled my time with my friends cos I couldn't switch off from it, & it felt awkward every time she came over. Needless to say, they didn't get a tip which is very unlike me. I'll not be going again, & I definitely won't be recommending it to...
Read moreWe visited as a group of 6 on a Saturday lunchtime. We called ahead to reserve a table and they very kindly did this for us. I would recommend this as during our time there I noticed it got rather busy.
Dogs are allowed, as long as they are well behaved.
The pub staff provided an at the table service which was convenient for us. One staff member was nice and friendly the other less so and seemed a bit miserable but it maybe because they were really busy.
The wait times seemed a bit long but itâs usually understandable when itâs a large party the kitchen are cooking for.
The food wasnât too bad, for starters the Yorkshire pudding was a bit bland, maybe might have benefitted from an onion gravy instead of just a normal one. The mushroom soup was delicious however the garlic mushrooms had a sweet taste to them.
For mains the steak pie a couple of people had was delicious however some of the other dishes werenât quite as good. The steak was a bit tough and chewy and difficult to cut, the mushroom stroganoff was over powered with onions and the gammon steak was a bit dry. The other items accompanying the dishes were tasty and the home made chips were yummy. However the small issues we had wasnât enough reason to warrant a complaint to the staff.
Prices of drinks were quite expensive for example two glasses of wine and a lager came to just under ÂŁ20. The food menu however offered two dishes for a set price.
After we finished our main course we were sat around for quite some time before deciding against having dessert and paying at the bar and leaving. By then the pub was really busy and perhaps we had been forgotten about thatâs what it felt like.
The atmosphere of the pub was nice and friendly and can see it is popular with dog walkers. The food overall wasnât too bad but I personally wouldnât rush to go back there to give it...
Read moreI've had numerous Sunday dinners here and only come as my mum has insisted on coming here. The food is okay, but the adult portion sizes are just about adequate for a toddler. I had a prawn cocktail at £6.50 which literally had a measly small spoons worth of prawn coctail, not much salad either, it came with a bread roll. Moving on to the roast at £9.50 i think it was:1 slice of Beef, 5 circles of carrot, teaspoon of cabbage and same for peas, 1 small roast potato, small spoon of mash and a slither of parsnip. Yorkshire pudding burnt to a cinder. Which i complained about and was not offered another just a sorry about that... And got a pound deducted off the bill. Onto desert i didn't bother but my mum had a sponge pudding of some sort with custard at £6. I didn't bother because i felt so far it was good value for money. The pudding and custard my mum had was cold, they brought a new one out which was fine. All in all we spent around £140 as a family of 4 adults and 1 child. 5 starters, 5 mains 3 deserts and a couple of drinks. We won't be coming back, im going to find somewhere else. Normally I don't need to have a starter but with portion sizes being so tight you need to. Save yourself the money and find some where else and make you...
