If you’re serious about your coffee, then avoid. I got a soya flat white from Max’s a couple of weeks ago. First red flag: they used Aldi soya milk as opposed to Alpro or speciality barista soya. Upon leaving the coffee shop I noticed the texture of my coffee was a little strange, slightly bitty. I was on my lunch break so didn’t have time to go back straight away, but when I got home, I put a spoon in the coffee and was kind of disgusted to see the attached. The milk was curdled, which happens when soya milk has been steamed to too high a temperature. I was so shocked that I had been served this, so I went back the next day to let them know what had happened. The guy who served me was working and when I showed him the pictures, he advised me “that’s what happens with that milk, we’ve had it before” I let him know that it has never happened with me at home when using my coffee steamer or at any other coffee shop I’ve visited in my life, and that he had overheated it. I mentioned that barista vegan milks are preferable to use, because the structure of the proteins is adjusted to make them more suitable for heating (unlike Aldi soya milk...). I was shocked and super disappointed that he had seen the milk had curdled and still thought it was acceptable to serve it to me. There is plenty of information freely available online detailing how to steam vegan milks, which this “barista” could have easily found with a quick search. When I went back in to the shop I would have loved for the guy to apologise but I really got the impression he thought I was after a free coffee (which I declined twice). The fact he saw the milk was curdled and still served it speaks volumes. I won’t be coming here again and would urge others to look further afield to Sutton or Boldmere for independents that serve beautiful, silky coffee that you can enjoy instead of pouring...
Read moreI was excited when I saw that the wine tasting shop was being turned into a coffee shop! I did hope that it would be a "Painting Pottery" coffee shop as we need one of those in the area and it certainly has the space for all the equipment (I would certainly be there use the kilns everyday!)
The two lovely staff ladies accommodated me and my youngest, they were very friendly. The coffee shop is VERY stylish (kudos to who was in charge of decorating and who did the decorating to very high standard finish). They even have a small children's playroom at the back with some toys. I don't drink coffee, but the hot chocolate with shipped cream IS better than Costa coffee's! ...They also still sell wine which is a bonus!
I think they'd also benefit from having a mother and toddler group morning, as they could definitely accommodate a small regular party of mother and toddlers (preferably on Monday mornings...
Read moreIn light of the recent challenges, I decided to support a local business & get my usual cappuccino from Max's Coffee Shop, but my experience was shocking & extremely disappointing! I'd walked over with my dog & not being sure I could take her inside (missed the sign on the door), I asked politely & was met with a hostile & exasperated roll of the eyes & a point to the sign! So I missed it! Easily done & certainly didn't warrant the hostile, rude & obnoxious attitude which I challenged again politely, and was told I was being 'arsy'!! Certainly never going back & will be sticking with the big brand coffee shops I have to drive to, where excellent, welcoming & friendly customer service is a given!! Arrogance from a small business thinking they have the monopoly of the area doesn't pay in the long run! Losing 1 customer is 1 too many! You'd have learnt that in business school if...
