Valley Spice — Restaurant in Birmingham

4* - Friendly staff... So far from what I've ordered and tasted, very nice Chinese food and the chips are good too!

Update: Oct 2020... 3* - This was my regular Chinese takeaway for at least the last 3 years... Had not ordered since before lock down in March. Ventured out to get my takeaway twice in Aug/Sept. Noticed a couple of new faces the first time. The lady said she just started working there. I thought nothing of it... Got home and was disappointed as I was looking forward to my king prawn fried rice. It was not as nice as usual. The ribs with lemon tasted the same.

I went the second time the other week and saw lots of new faces so said to them that I haven't seen them before. I was then informed that they are the new owners for the last 2 months (must be 3 or 4 months now) as the other owners have retired. I was surprised.

I ordered some of my usual, king prawn fried rice, shrimp & pork chow mein, ribs with lemon and I think some beansprouts... I was disappointed again. They were not up to the usual standard; no taste, very bland apart from the ribs again.

Not sure about other items on the menu so may give them one more try... I won't happy if they can't keep up to the standard flavours I'm used to as it's very hard to find a takeaway that tastes very good and the flavours consistent.

UPDATE: MAY 2021 1* - I'm very very very disappointed with the standard and taste of the food now since it's under new management.

Thought I'd still give them a chance but it's getting worse. The only good thing is that they started a delivery service... The taste is not good and the chow mein was mushy and over cooked! Now even the ribs have gone dry... I won't be using them again. I ain't got money to waste! Got to find me a new regular takeaway now.

I want to cry!!! Where have the original owners gone. They were the best. I need to find them!...

Terrible! Really gone down hill since new owners took over. Thought I'd take a chance for the first time since the old owners left but i was so disappointed. Food is stale and obviously reheated, sauce in king prawns and black bean sauce is gloopy, strange tasting and sweet-nothing at all like it used to be. Also about 6 prawns in the entire dish. Rice was just warm. So glad I didn't waste any more money by ordering anything else as I used to. The food in the hot tray looked pretty stale so I should have took it as a warning. Place was also messy with stale chips lying around the counter. Looks like the new owners are trying to save money however they can which has really affected the quality of the food. I used to drive miles to use this place and used it for many years but I won't be bothering again. They may save money in the short term but they'll lose a lot of customers and a lot of money as time goes...

Been Ordering here on and off for a year mainly because one of few chinese’s that have a 5 star food rating… but delivery time is shocking… Say 710/7.20 turn up after 8pm.. We had someone who has to take medication at 7.30 and they had to cook something to take their medication with.! When you call they say there 15/20mins away delivering to someone else after there 20/25 mins late already.. Manage people’s expectations it’s simple, if your not gonna be able to cook and deliver in the hour then change your delivery times People actually depend or count on the information you provide.. if you lost custom because of an 90 mins wait you’d have better reviews as your manage people’s expectations.. shame we won’t be ordering again and it’s not like it was a cheap meal Almost £90 for a 90/100 minute wait, wouldn’t take that delay in a restaurant let alone fast...
