Terrible experience altogether.
I am not one to complain and I am extremely patient when it comes to customer service as sometimes I appreciate things donât always go to plan. However, tonight (08/07/23) was quite possibly the worst experience my family and I have experienced. We arrived at our booking, on time which was at 7:30, we received our drinks and was chatting for a good 10 minutes or so whilst waiting for the menu. We ended up having to go and ask for a menu from one of the staff. Another 20 minutes go by as we are waiting to order our food and we get told that some of the menu is unavailable, mainly the steaks, but not to worry this happens every so often, so we placed our order with secondary choices.
Skip 40 minutes or so, still no food had arrived, we asked the waitress if we could chase the food to be told it will be another 25 minutes or more. We donât mind waiting for food but just a little over an hour for food is ridiculous and the pub was reasonably quiet for a Saturday evening. So we waited and waited until one of the managers said we are really sorry for the wait, it is now being plated up, which took another 10-15 minutes. Only for the food to come out in a terrible manner. Food was stale, overcooked and even a hair on the plate, which isnât what youâd expect from any restaurant/pub. We also asked for condiments only to be given one small pot of ketchup between 6 of us and no way of distributing it out amongst ourselves. We simply asked for a spoon to sort this out.
Whilst we was eating the rather unpleasant food, the manager came over to ourselves and asked how the food was, we answered honestly and said that it wasnât a great experience and the food wasnât to our expectations (not that itâs Michelin star, we know what food should taste like). She then turned around and called us incredibly rude customers who had upset the waitress. We hadnât even spoken in any bad way to the waitress as we all understand that people can have a bad day and that she can only do what she can within her power. We retorted back that the experience had been poor and that we shouldnât be ridiculed for telling them that they are doing a shocking job. The manager was so rude and wouldnât even accept a Green King NHS Discount either, we gave honest feedback and we all left a birthday meal extremely deflated and disappointed.
Please seriously reconsider going to this place as we wish we had gone elsewhere.
Ruined a family meal out, celebrating a birthday, only to be told that we are being rude even when we hadnât said anything is disgusting and itâs extremely atrocious to say this to paying customers.
This place was a disaster and we wonât...
Read moreThis 17th century village pub has been through some tough times over the last few years. The long-standing landlord left a thriving and successful pub about five years ago and a succession of managers and tenants managed to make it a place best avoided.
A new landlord has arrived and appears to know what they are doing.
A significant refurbishment and new life has been breathed very tastefully into this fine old building.
We visited early April on a Friday evening and received a very pleasant welcome. It's a Greene King tied house so 'proper' beers available were limited to IPA and Speckled Hen. These were well kept and nicely presented.
The delightful surprise was the excellent food menu with a significant choice of unusual dishes and quite a tough choice as to what to have.
The separate dining room was closed and may well open up when customer numbers expand (as I suspect it will when the word gets around). We ate in the bar and tables were nicely set with tablecloths and cutlery etc. Thoughtfully not all tables were set for food, allowing drinkers not to feel excluded.
When our food arrived we were delighted in both the quality and the quantity provided, all beautifully cooked. Vegetables were served separately and to be honest there were enough for four rather than the two of us. I had a massive mixed grill, which at ÂŁ14 was stunning value given the selection of meats provided. All cooked rare as requested. My wife had a spicy chicken dish which was very nicely presented and given high praise.
We finished our evening with a couple of drinks thoughtfully brought to our table.
Well worth a visit being just two minutes from junction 30 on the M1.
Negatives? - As stated previously I think a better selection of beers would help and a similar comment goes for the wine selection which seems to have been neglected with an...
Read moreVisited here on a Saturday. It's was fairly quiet. Whilst waiting to be seated, there was a strong over-powering smell of urine coming from the toilets located next to the entrance. When we were seated we were given a menu, however there was no childrens menu. The waitress was helpful with this and listed several choices for children (difficult to remember the options without a menu). The starters came out in good time, and were nice. I ordered a chicken supreme, partner ordered a steak and ale pie and son a burger. The chicken supreme came out as a very dry chicken breast (no sauce), 1 mushroom sliced and wedges. I then found a long dark hair on my mushroom. Could not even swallow the chicken due to how dry this was also. I pulled the waitress aside and explained that I could not eat this. She apologise and took the plate back to the kitchen. I was not offered an alternative (although at this point I did not want anything else). We could hear arguing in the kitchen after this which made me feel uncomfortable.
My partners steak and ale pie was dry pieces of fatty meat with a random puff pastry ball placed on top (no veg).
According to the waitress, my order was a chicken suprem not a supreme? I have no idea what the difference is but was told this does not come with a sauce. In my experience a chicken supreme always comes in a sauce? I'm still trying to figure this out!
We did not have to pay for my main. However was left feeling sick and ÂŁ50+ out of pocket.
We have visited here on numerous occasions and have always enjoyed our meal. This time round we were so...
