I've just re-visited the pub after their 1 million pound refurbishment and I'm sorry to say that its not changed much from my previous review below. I ordered the no leaf salad but was told there was no guacamole, I thought it was strange as I hadn't read that it was included on the menu, but as I don't care for it, I said that it didn't matter. The Asst. Manager, who told me this, said that she'd make it "more like a salad" for me. Again a strange thing to say as I was ordering a salad, but I trusted her and agreed. Unfortunately, the salad came with 3 ingredients missing, no hummus (the reason I'd ordered it), the mixed seeds and cibatta croutons. Rocket leaves had been substituted for the missing guacamole! Not a fair substitute I thought. When I queried the missing hummus I was told that I'd been told there was none, this was incorrect, I was told there was no guacamole which is completely different, in my view, from hummus. One is made from advocado the other chickpea's but in this instance it should have been edamam beans. I also queried the cauliflower, it was described as roasted with a sriacha sauce, however, it had simply been boiled, with a dribble of sauce ontop. To be fair, Amanda, who I complained to was excellent, she apologised and went to get me some more cauliflower, seeds and croutons, however, the new cauliflower was the same boiled cauliflower which then looked like it had been held over a flame to blacken one side of it and even less sauce. Very disappointing. Certainly not worth £12.99! My friend then asked for a Tia Maria coffee but was told there was no Tia Maria. Finally, I went to the toilet and went to wash my hands but there was no water!!! My hands were full of soap but no water to wash it off. I mentioned this to Amanda who told me that when it was busy, or cold the water pressure dropped, plus the pub is situated on a hill, so that doesn't help the pressure. This is a pub that has just spent 1 million and you cannot wash your hands! I was also told that they had no electic the week previous. We declined a dessert as we were so disappointed and we chose not to leave a tip, which I've never done before. I won't be going back any time soon. Pity. Lots of outdoor seating some under cover (if reserved prior)with fantastic views over Horwich, unfortunately the food is poor. I ordered the vegan beetroot burger but it was so hard I couldn't even bite into it. I told the waiter and he took it away with no quibble and asked if I wanted anything else so I then ordered mac 'n' cheese. Unfortunately although edible it tasted synthetic as though the cheese sauce was made from a packet ie. Dried constituted powder. Despite the poor food the service was excellent, full marks for the waiter who handled it very well, including my second complaint about the cheese sauce.

First time we’ve been in here for a while due to ill health. My Stepdaughter’s, my Wife’s Daughters bought us a Voucher for the Pub Company the Blundell is owned by so last Sunday we decided to go and spend it, knowing we’d have to pay extra but after a major health scare just before Christmas we really didn’t mind, we needed to get out. Knowing how busy this place can get, especially with it being a Sunday but also just as Half Term starts, we made sure we booked ahead. Service was great without being overbearing, something I really can’t abide as I believe there’s nothing worse than members of Staff interrupting your meal every 5 minutes or so to ask how the food is, usually when this happens the food, by now, is cold, thankfully this wasn’t and never has happened to us here. The food was spot on as usual, we had a starter of Salt & Pepper Squid to share, my wife had a Sunday Lunch whilst I opted for the Sea Bass and Baby Scallop Risotto. We shared a starter as I knew I’d want desert, even my wife, who isn’t really a desert person had one too, both opted for the Bakewell Tart with Custard and Raspberry Coulis, the latter I really don’t see the point off, especially when it was just a few dots of it on the plate, portion was a little small but otherwise it was lovely. My only real disappointment was when it came to the bill, I had my voucher card which I told the waitress there was £30 on, and also my Credit Card, she gave me the card machine to add a tip if wanted and what amount which I did, but then she just put the cost of the meal not my Card, without using the Voucher. I know the Voucher only covered a third of the total cost but that was the reason we went in the first place, yes we will go again, as I said previously, everything was great besides this last exchange where the young girl just took her eye off the ball, the only time she had done for us this visit, this could have been an embarrassing situation for some. Sorry, from the options below we only had the custard.

If you’re a fan of hearty, comforting food within a modern gastropub full of interior charm, look no further than the Blundell Arms. We recently had the pleasure of trying their steak and ale pie, as well as the mushroom and ale pie, and I’m still thinking about how incredible they were! The steak and ale pie was everything you’d want in a savoury pie – tender, flavourful beef that melted in your mouth, perfectly complemented by a rich and aromatic ale gravy. The pastry was golden and flaky, a perfect contrast to the hearty filling. Every bite was packed with flavour, and the portion size was extremely generous, and loaded with filling, leaving me full but wanting more. The mushroom pie was equally impressive. For anyone who loves earthy, umami-rich flavour's, this pie was an absolute treat. The mushrooms were sautéed to perfection, and the creamy sauce they were nestled in was indulgent without being overwhelming. The crust was again perfectly baked, with just the right amount of crunch, making each mouthful a satisfying experience. We have to say that my experience was made even more enjoyable thanks to the exceptional service we received from Mason, and Amanda. Even though it was clear that he was still finding his footing, his professionalism, attentiveness, and friendly demeanour made us feel right at home. From the moment we sat down, he greeted us with a warm smile and was eager to answer any questions about the menu. He handled our requests with confidence and patience, making sure we felt comfortable and well taken care of throughout our meal. It was clear he was taking the time to ensure every detail was just right, and despite being new, his enthusiasm for the job was evident.

AWFUL EXPERIENCE ( please see amendment as at 17/06/25 ) First of all I have to say my family , friends and myself visit The Blundell on a very regular basis and have enjoyed good food, hospitality and service in the past. Not so this evening. I received a promotional email basically offering £10 off a transaction of £30 or more. There was four of us in the group. My wife and myself and my parents. They also had a promo. email. We always pay separately ( 2 transactions ) As we have here before with no issues. We met up an hour before for pre dinner drinks and were then seated at the table. The waiter came to take our food and drink order and I mentioned me and my wife were paying separately to my parents. He said this wasn't possible and when I stated we were using email vouchers separately he said it is one voucher per table. I disputed this and and so he went away and somebody called Simon appeared. He stated adamantly the same response. One voucher per table as oppose to transaction. Even though my father had an email along with myself. So I said maybe if my parents separate to another table it would work ??? He looked entirely disinterested and went off to clear a nearby table. We then politely said we have spent a great deal of money at The Blundell Arms and would never be returning or recommending after this deflating experience with Simon and the other waiter. We left and travelled to another close by restaurant and enjoyed a lovely meal. Incidentally their is nothing in the terms or conditions to say this email promotion is per table only ,and we have in the past when visiting with friends paid separately and used two promotional codes. I will be in contact with Chef & Brewer / Greene King down in Suffolk for clarification and to relate our poor experience. 》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》》 Following my recent conversation with Kris Abyad and my return to the Blundell Arms as of 17 / 06 / 25 I have to say Kris as totally restored my faith in this establishment , The Blundell and indeed Greene King. Wonderful hospitality and service from the lovely Natalie and spot on cuisine. Recommended to all. Roll on our...
