Previously enjoyed meals at nicks other restaurants si was looking forward to thus birthdsy treat from friends. Beautiful location. Dining area not plush as expected. Staff quick to take drinks orders but qent downhill after that. Food was very slow to arrive and quality was poor. My husbands whitebait starter was deep fried to the point of cremation and the tiniest pit of mayonnaise to accompany. My mussels were lukewarm, more shell than meat, no bowl given fir shells. After 1hr 40mins since arrival, we chased our mains. The fish and chips enjoyed by 2 were well received, My husbands seabass was cooked perfectly My chicken and bacon ceasar salad was a disaster. A bowl of lettuce swimming in what seemed like a bottle of dressing. I needed a spoon!! No bacon as advertised and 1 anchovy swimming in the bottom of the bowl. I couldn't eat it. No one enquired if we had enjoyed our meal etc. Dessert menus left on table but no one came to take an order so after 15minures we paid and left. Our friends had been before and said they could not believer it was the same place and were very disappointed The menu was very pub food whereas it used to be more special No tablecloths as before They were embarrassed as it was my birthday treat
.would I go again, doubtful!
Over priced and over...
Read moreBEST RESTAURANT AROUND in my view particularly for fish specials and Oysters. Went to Nicks many years ago when it was at Chequerbent and it was excellent then, first time I tried Oysters. A memorable dining experience obviously as recently visited again for my son's birthday at their place in Horwich. We went specifically for Oysters and fish. The experience was fabulous and it lived up to my previous expectations. I can honestly say I cannot fault this place. It was better than James Martin's in Manchester and similarly priced. Now I feel I'm betraying my favourite chef James Martin, but I have to be honest. That said, the bread served at JM was the best I've ever tasted.
Nicks was busy, even for a Wednesday evening. Tables full. Atmosphere was almost wedding reception-like, intimate and friendly. Staff were attentive and welcoming. Decor was relaxing and zen - think Kelly Hoppen neutral ambience.
Cannot wait to go back. Very affordable 2/3 course menu priced at £25/£30 respectively with no concessions on taste, quality or service. Even the house white wine was fantastic.
The only question I ask myself is "why I've not been back sooner?!"
There's magic sprinkled all over that place! ✨ 🥂🍽 🎩 🪄
