Booked a table for a family meal (2 adults 2 children). My immediate impressions and observations:
upon a arrival the car park was dirty (strewn with litter) and unkempt which is off putting. side entrance to the pub is a mess and untidy, decor of the pub is generally okay and inviting, but on closer inspection is looking tired and heavily worn in quite a few places.... toilets are particularly run down beer garden is also untidy - lots of weeds showing and litter on the floor here and there - again unkempt and uncared for staff are helpful and friendly enough, but there was little in the way of eye contact and quite a few of the staff were openly yawning and looked disinterested and bored, this was also true of the owner/manager who made no attempt to engage with me other than to take my money I ordered lamb and chorizo pie with chips which was very tasty and filling, chips a little uncooked slightly but overall good partner ordered a vegetarian pasta dish which was fresh and very tasty one daughter ordered bolognese which went down very well and was tasty other daughter ordered pizza - this was a POOR dish really.... comprising of a small packet pizza the type of which you'd buy from Tesco (budget range) - compared with the fresh pizzas being served to other customers, I thought this was very poor quality by comparison. It's not difficult to make a small fresh pizza and didn't warrant the price paid at all Puddings were enjoyed by all
Full price paid for meals and drinks was £65. I think this is a little off the mark. The food, for the most part was good, but not amazingly so. You could eat just as well (if not better in some cases) at other chains such as Brewers Fayre for example and for cheaper. I'm not sure the food is of the standard required to justify some of the pricing if I'm honest. Though it's not terrible by any means, the establishment is clearly pushing for a certain market beyond your cheaper chains, but isn't quite hitting the nail...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWent there yesterday afternoon (25th Sep 2016) with my wife & her mother. Place looked nice from the outside and the inside (oldie worldy) wasnāt too bad as well, it was ok. But where the place fell down was with the food (some of it was cold) and the service was very poor.
Now Iām pretty easy going when it comes to eating out, as long as the food is good Iām easily satisfied.
But when you go out with family all that changes, so you start to notice all the little things that are wrong / not good, things like...
Having all your food being hot - having a clean table to sit at ā not having to take your mother in laws fork back to the counter because it had yesterdayās food on it ā being served with a proper dinner plate instead of a black slate with the food hanging off the side of it when it arrives, thing,s like that.
Also having cheerful friendly staff welcoming you to their humble abode & saying thank you & goodbye when you leave instead of just standing there at the counter ignoring you.
My wife went to say goodbye to the two girls at the counter but they didnāt seem interested....that can,t but be good business.
Are you listening Wilton Arms, as itās these sort of little things that make people want to come back again & again. You only get one chance of making a good impression, and if you donāt get it right like you didnāt today with us, people end up writing things like this, and telling others not to bother trying youāre eating house.
Marks out of 10 on the food ā my food 5 ā wifeās 4 ā mother in laws food 3 ā Service 1. So make of this what you wish.
But we will definitely NOT be coming back again, which is such a shame, because your in...

Staff we're polite but didn't have a clue to what was going on . I asked what is the fish of the day and they said they didn't know and carried on . I asked can you find out and they went away . Staff returned and said we think its cod but not sure . I asked another member of staff could they find out . She returned and said they couldn't find out coz the chefs were busy . Even tho there was 3 tables in.
I said forget it and ordered the burger . The burger arrived and appeared and tasted like it had been boiled . Somethered in cheese also to hide the poor tastless quality. I told a member of staff and they took it away and said sorry about that but but nothing to correct this.
My wife and child had Sunday roasts and again the ingredients used looked like they were from frozen. No gravy boat option offered just smothered in to much watery gravy to hide poor quality food .my child's meal came with creamy mash that didn't need gravy and it arrived smothered in gravy making it a plate of slop that she couldn't eat.
This is the perfect example of a restaurant that would appear on kitchen nightmares . New management should be ashamed of themselves.
This meal cost us £60 for poor boiled from frozen food . As my wife paid she had to go to the counter for the bill as she waited long enough. She felt uncomfortable as the staff were giving her dirty looks and talking in her direction. When she said is everything OK they said oh no it doesn't matter .
Burn this place to the ground to save people the disappointment. Will be closed before...
