Tolerates dogs rather than being dog friendly. I live local, been a few times and never had this issue but this visit was really disappointing. Arrived with dog, friend already seated, neither of us knew inside there's a dog Vs no dogs area so we're were asked to move (fine), before I even sat down the man barked at me to ensure my dog was out of the way so waiters didn't trip up on her (dog is a small bichon mix, on a lead) which I found quite abrupt and insinuated I had never been in a public place with her before (obviously I don't want her trodden on).
The icing on the cake was when I was enjoying my coffee, dog asleep on me (not on table) and the same man marched over as told me to put my dog down - no gentle explanation of why, it was completely unnecessary and rude. She was sleep doing absolutely no harm to anyone, yet he felt he had to disturb my breakfast like an absolute jobsworth. I felt like I was being monitored and was very uncomfortable.
It actually ended up ruining my breakfast, and I decided to speak to him after saying he made me feel uncomfortable, unwelcome and the way he spoke to me was abrupt and unnecessary. He did apologise but it's really left a mark on me, which is a shame because I live local and enjoyed going there.
I've seen other similar reviews so I know it's not me, and before the manager replies back saying there's rules written everywhere they need to be displayed better because I didn't see them anywhere. I understand not every dog behaves and owners responsible, but please teach your staff to speak to the paying guests like human beings and you may find you get a better response back. Manners...
Read moreHaving spent a week in the area and having visited lots of small, family run business and having had amazing service we were excited about visiting Beachcomber on our last day.
Unfortunately we were meet by a rude wait staff member whom everything was a problem! We were a group of adults so not a massive group and it wasn't overly busy so not sure what the excuse was. Considering the amount that we paid for the food and drinks we didn't feel a couple of pieces of plain bread/toast was too much to ask for a member of the group who needed something small. We were happy to pay the amount of a normal sandwich. The answer was "No we don't do that and the owners won't allow it". Now granted if it had been a random request or something difficult I would have understood. Since they served sandwiches, freshly made surely the bread part without the filling would be possible.
Having asked at other, much smaller establishments over the week were nothing was a problem this seemed overly unhelpful.
The waiter then seemed put out and everything became a problem. We asked for table water, he put it on the order, only much later did someone else tell us we had to get it ourselves. The coffee arrived cold and incredibly weak.
I wouldn't recommend eating here there are many other wonderful restaurants in the area, the overpriced rudeness here is...
Read moreI can’t recommend the Beachcomber highly enough! Not only is it the ONLY place in Lytham St Annes that’s actually on the beach, the food is fabulous, the atmosphere relaxed and the welcome warm and friendly for families; for dogs too, perfect for dog walkers.
I’ve been for breakfast, lunch and Sunday lunch. The Eggs Benedict is perfect, my favourite, and the Sunday lunch just marvellous. Last Sunday we had a Prawn Cocktail/homemade Tomato & Basil soup; Beef/Pork/Chicken Roast Dinners followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding, all delicious. The roast is served with a platter of freshly cooked vegetables, all the relevant sauce accompaniments and an extra jug of gravy. I’m always asking for extra gravy so I love that touch.
The menu is restricted to a one, two or three course meal on Sundays, with about 3 options for each course, which means the small kitchen can concentrate on the quality and they succeed! For 1 course it’s £14.95, 2 courses £19.95, 3 courses £23.95, great value! There is always a veggie/vegan option too.
I really enjoyed the Sea Change wine as well, a lovely light Provence rosé. Do go, you won’t be disappointed. Just make sure you book as they are very busy!
PS: There’s a council owned Pay & Display car park next door, off Clifton Drive, called North Beach. There’s a wheelchair ramp up to the café and there...
