We had a table booked for 7. We arrived and was seated very quickly by the duty manager. Presented menus and then the manager left us. Our server for the evening was Orta he came over and introduced himself. He explained how the restaurant works as it was our first time. We ordered drinks and the food, the starters arrived. Whilst we were half way through the starters, another member of the team came over with the salad wedge. She seemed to notice that we had not finished, so went "oh" and walked away. We finished the starters and immediately received the lettuce wedges again. We then received the Mains in a rather quick fashion, I ordered the Filet surf and turf and my partner ordered the 3 course set menu with the Rib Eye. Upon arrival i noticed that the Peppercorn sauce had a skin on it, ignoring this i cut into the Onion loaf and noticed it was cold, i got the attention of a staff member and she brought me a new one, only for me to then find this was cold too, i mentioned this to Orta who apologised and brought me a hotter one, which i am not sure was a fresh one as such. having recieved this i cut into the rest of my meal only to find that the steak was cold too. I didnt want to mention this at the time as i had already sent one item back twice. The meal continued and Orta came to clear the plates at the end, he asked how it was and i mentioned that i was not thrilled with my meal as the onion was cold, the peppercorn sauce had a skin on and the steak was cold too, especially for the price of the meal i had selected i did not think it was worth the price. Orta said, "ok i will sort this out for you." he came back and said "the managers taken care of the bill." but nothing else. This left us confused, did he take my meal off the bill? Did he zero the entire bill? I was unsure. He came back with a dessert menu as my partner had the set menu. She then ordered the cookie pie which orta then said that it was a sharer but he would sort it yet again, he was still unclear about what this meant and whether we were paying anything at all. I then asked for the bill to which he brought it over for us to find we had only been given a 20% discount for all the issues. I brought this up with him and challenged why we had been charged £13 for the dessert and not had the fixed price menu honoured. he was rude and offered a manager who came over. Orta then seemed to go over to the till area and discuss this negatively with a number of other members of staff. Once the manager arrived at the table, I explained the issue and he said that he had given me a 20% discount because of the issues with my meal. After I questioned the fixed price menu issue he said he will sort it out and presented us with a new bill, excluding the dessert. I think that a 20% discount for a cold meal which costs nearly £50 was unacceptable. When I consider the fact we had nothing explained to us properly about how they were going to sort out our complaint, i believe this is not a great reflection of the company or the brand of Miller and Carter, which I believed was a "Premium Brand" the meal felt rushed by the staff and the experience was unacceptable, it felt like the meal had been sat waiting for us, whereas it should have been us sitting waiting for the meal. To then have to pay as much as i did, was an insult. Cold food, rude staff, made the experience very negative. The bill at the end did not reflect the service or quality which...
Read morePaid a visit afternoon of Wednesday 31st August. Very large car park with disabled spaces. There is a ramp up to the main entrance with grab rails on both sides so access is ok for those with mobility problems. Wasn’t busy so lots of choice of where to sit. Tables were big so if 4 of you were to sit at one you would have loads of elbow room. Looks a big place so should seat quite a high number of covers but I can imagine they get busy especially on a Friday and a Saturday night. From what we saw of the place it was well set out, plenty of room between tables and looked very clean and tidy. Menus were a la carte and there was a 2 or 3 course fixed price menu for early diners. One nice touch was the fixed price menu was in large print so very easy to read. However, we were in a steakhouse and obviously keen to try the steaks so we opted for the a la carte menu. We ordered salt and pepper Calamari to share as a starter and a 10oz grain fed sirloin at £28.95 and an 8 oz Black Angus Ribeye at £23.75. Both with Peppercorn sauce and Garlic Mayonnaise and Grana Padano wedge dressing. Our waitress for our meal was called Susan. Friendly, efficient and professional. Gave us plenty of time to make our choice. Answered any queries we had, made several suggestions regarding the menu and she was attentive without being over bearing. I liked the Calamari but as it was described as salt and pepper so had expected it to come with chillis and garlic and be a bit spicy. Portion was for one but just about big enough to share as a starter for 2. Mains arrived after a reasonable interval. I had ordered the sirloin and I like my steak rare. Mine was cooked just right for me. I don’t know how they did but it was the same all the way through. One of the best steaks I have had in a long time. Fries were good as was the wedge dressing. The onion bread was also nice and a little different. Susan had explained they did this as a substitute for onion rings. I wasn’t over impressed with the peppercorn sauce if I’m being honest. Didn’t seem to have a lot of flavour. We were full and had no room for desserts. Meal was relatively expensive. Over £90 including a bottle of the house Rioja, one pint of lager and a mineral water. But bear in mind that the steaks were very, very good. You will get cheaper steaks I’m sure but not of this quality. The old saying is you get what you pay for and that was the case here. Overall based on our visit today I would recommend this establishment and would have no hesitation in visiting here again or one of their other restaurants if I wanted...
Read moreCame in for a birthday meal with my partner last Sunday and all I can say is what a disappointment. As frequent visitors of miller& Carter, we’re used to the high levels of service and lush food that is normally presented as many of my previous reviews state, however this time we were sat at our table for 20+ minutes before a waitress came over. After ordering our food and drinks at the same time (as we didn’t want to be waiting for excessive amounts of time at each stage) we waited another 15 or so minutes for our drinks, to be told they couldn’t make either of them - fair enough, so we order others. We managed to eat our starters and have our plates cleared before our drinks finally arrived. Lettuce wedges and mains came out but no fresh cutlery, so had to ask the lovely food runner to grab some. Our waitress came over after we’d begun our meal with cutlery after realising we’d been left forgotten - she was focussing on the larger tables in the section. Steak was overly salty and neither myself nor my partner could finish. Plates were cleared and we were left for another 10 minutes plus with empty glasses on our tables, waiting for a dessert menu. Tables around us got happy birthday sang to, but we never received this, even though this was mentioned to staff. We did receive money off for the drinks situation, but not even an apology for the abysmal service. This was our first night out alone after having a child, so stress levels were high enough as is, but this was a total disappointment and ruined the whole experience. Have to point out the wonderful food runner (young lady with long blondish hair and glasses) who absolutely saved us from walking out. Think we’ll be off to the poulton...
