Visited for lunch on a Thursday afternoon late August. Large car park in a well maintained condition with 4 designated disabled spaces. All 4 were taken but still plenty of available spaces in the rest of the car park. Access not an issues for anyone in a wheelchair or with mobility problems. Inside didn’t see any steps that could cause problems. A range of seating options available and it was fairly busy when we went in with families and some larger groups enjoying their lunch. The menu seemed pretty extensive. A wide range of options with several deals offering what looked like good value. This included Thursday Curry club. Most of the deals offered a free drink option as well. I opted for the 3 course and a drink deal at £22.95. For my starter I ordered the Beer Battered Bury Black Pudding. Fish and chips for my mains with Cookies and Cream Cheesecake for dessert. For my drink I had a pint of American IPA. My brother ordered a Steak and Pepper Baguette at £10.95 and a pint of Diamond lager which was £4.90. I had assumed it was table service but you placed your order at the bar giving your table number and paid for it at the same time. My starter arrived quite quickly. The poached egg on top cooked as I like with a soft yoke. The black pudding was very tasty but not the biggest of portions. Mains didn’t take long either. I liked the fish. Tasty, reasonably thick with big flakes of fish but again not a massive portion. Disappointed with the chips. They had already started to go cold and seemed a little soft if not soggy. I had asked for garden peas. I got mushy. Didn’t bother making an issue of this as felt by the time I had got someone’s attention and they were replaced I would probably have finished. The first bite into the beef baguette wasn’t encouraging. Meat was mostly gristle with a chunk of fat. However, it was just that one piece. The rest of the beef was fine and was enjoyed along with the fries and the onion rings. But my brother did say he would have liked some more fresh red chilli on it. He only seemed to find the one bit. My cheesecake was fine. Well presented and tasty but I suspect made off site and brought in. One thing I was disappointed with was my pint of American IPA. I don’t recall visiting a Holts establishment before and was keen to try one of their own beers. My pint lacked flavour and had no depth to it. I didn’t get any of the citrus flavour you normally associate with an IPA. For want of a better description it tasted watery. I didn’t finish it. My brother went with the Diamond Premium Lager. 5% ALC Vol. I took a small taste and realised I should have got the same. He enjoyed his pint and went back to the bar for a second. He mentioned my disappointment with the IPA to the server. This was met with a shrug of the shoulders. At £4.90 a pint this lager is very competitively priced against other premium lagers offered in other establishments. The venue itself looked tidy and well maintained. Staff were quick to clean and wipe tables once they had been vacated. Although I did see one young member of staff cleaning around the carvery area which in one way was comical but also a little unhygienic. Maybe a reminder to certain staff to be a little more cautious in how they clean might be in order. And a reminder that there are eyes on them all the time. To sum up, although there was nothing wrong with our food or dining experience there was also nothing that you would describe as delicious, or mouth watering, or exceptional and have us rushing back. But that’s not to say we wouldn’t try another Holts establishment as they do have some attractively priced offers on their menu and they seem to have some nice locations throughout the North West.

Came here today for my daughters birthday (not a party just went in for a meal, she really wanted a carvery) food was absolutely amazing and the service even better! Staff overheard it was her birthday and gifted us a huge slice of cake and an ice cream for our other daughter and sang happy birthday to her, we did not request this they did this off of their own backs! She was absolutely over the moon. The cake and ice cream was to die for! All of the servers were happy and chatty, food was hot and delicious and the place was clean! Can't rate this place highly enough!

we went for a meal with the family on the 2nd January 2024, it was very empty, hardly any body in there. It seemed like there were more staff than customers. With our party of six, I think we more than doubled the customers in there. It was around 8pm that we were there, and we all ended up with our 3rd choice of food, because a lot of the choices were 'sold out'. There were no steaks available, at all. And other things from the menu weren't available either, but I can't remember what now. So that was disappointing, but we stayed to eat, as we wouldn't have had enough time to go anywhere else, to be honest, and still get food. 2 of us ended up with burgers, and 2 of us ended up with chicken tika massala and 2 of us shared a pizza. The food was OK for pub food, have had a lot worse. It seems tome, that there's alot of emphasis on dessert / cake there. But a nice main would have been good! The price was OK. I tried to buy a still water, but they had none whatsoever, only fizzy. So I ended up drinking tap water, which I wasn't thrilled with, but OK. Everyone else had their beers, cokes etc, but I don't drink any of that stuff. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We will eat there again, as it's close to my sisters, where we all gather for Christmas, and it's OK. Just disappointed that the meals available were lacking. Oh, the music was good! We, as a family love music, so one of us or all of us are always humming or quietly singing along to whatever is on...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable Father’s Day at The Water’s Edge!

We spent Father’s Day at The Water’s Edge and were blown away by the entire experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and incredible customer service. Every member of staff was polite, friendly, and genuinely welcoming — even when things got busy, the team stayed calm, cheerful, and completely on top of everything.

The atmosphere was lively yet relaxed, and the venue was clearly very well-staffed and efficiently run. Service was fast, smooth, and professional throughout.

The highlight of the day? The carvery — absolutely amazing! Every cut of meat was perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavour. The roast potatoes were crisp, the vegetables fresh, and the gravy rich and delicious. It was a classic done to perfection!

Drinks were just as impressive — well-made and served promptly. Whether it was a cold pint or a glass of wine, everything was spot on.

Honestly, every single staff member deserves praise. Their friendliness, attention to detail, and positive attitude made the whole experience feel special. If you’re looking for the perfect place to celebrate — or just enjoy a flawless roast — The Water’s Edge is the place to go. We can’t wait to return! Thank you to...
