Zaal Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Borough of Runnymede

I don't like leaving bad reviews. In most cases, I just let it go. However, this was the worst takeaway I have ever had. They got our starters completely wrong ( we ordered a zaal special discovery entree which their website describes as Chicken Tikka, Lamb Tikka, Sheek Kebab and Onion Bhaji) but instead got an assortment of fish dishes (Mussel, Calamari and what seemed like a prawn spring roll?) Then we had our mains. I ordered a mild curry and was surprised when I tasted it; it tasted like Heinz Tomato soup mixed with a bottle of tabasco. I usually order a madras and this was 10 times hotter than one of them. My partner ordered a mild curry (a malaya?) and it was edible. The sauce was fine and mild, as expected. However, the chicken and pineapple were rock solid and he struggled to chew any of it. The only positive thing about the meal was the naan bread but we already had them in the freezer. Went here for our 20th wedding anniversary, on a recommendation of a friend and have to say it was well worth the 20 minute drive from Egham to seat and eat, the service was attentive but not over the top, we were served some fresh poppadoms to munch on with some lovely chutneys while we chose our main dishes. We didn't have to wait to long either for our mains to turn up which were fresh, hot and of a good portion.. I had the biryani and the wife had the tikka masala with mushroom rice and were both impressed with the flavours of the dishes. The keema naan was light and had plenty of meat in the middle. The bill at the end of the evening was amazingly reasonable and because of a discount offer on their website I saved a further 20% on the bill. So in a an amazing meal, great value and a great setting.....

I wish I had an option to give ZERO star. I have eaten at numerous restaurants around the globe but this one was my worst experience. Pathetic service. We were given a treatment like we are eating for free or may be they thought we didn't deserve the high class customer service that others have mentioned in their reviews. Food wasn't bad but portion sizes were very small. Server was making unnecessary comments like "dnt order stuffed paratha, it takes time to make one." When I said I have enough time, he just gave me weird expression which just disgusted me. You go to Dinner to have a nice time but we were treated like we just should not be there. Overall, If you are an Indian, please do not visit this restaurant. These guys do not deserve...
