Well stocked garden centre with a number of knowledgeable staff present in the plant areas to assist. Prices are competitive.
Adequate large car park will see you not fighting for a space even at weekends.
Obligatory cafe required these days is not too large fortunately and doesn't reduce floorspace that would be otherwise be given over to gardening stock.
Outdoor area well laid-out making searching and browsing straightforward. Stock is always well maintained and fresh. Extensive range of pots Also wide range of compost, though sometimes they run out of certain brands and sizes.
Large area for tools and consumables, weedkiller, fertiliser and the like.
Not much in the way of house plants but there is a good cut flower section which is a little forgotten hidden away at the back corner. Would be more obvious nearer the front.
Cramped 'Supermarket' instore stocking mostly everyday foods is redundant really and makes access to the tills unnecessarily difficult, especially with a big loaded trolley. Should be downsized to a couple of aisles selling farm style items if anything.
A lot of cards in a card shop area could also be reduced to a few rotating wire displays. This would give more room to stock tender plants bulbs etc year round. The usual shelves of gifts and niknaks are not too excessive, unlike some other...
Read moreWent there this morning with my wife to by some pots on arriving at the till there was some discussion about them being a price that was higher than we expected not a great deal maybe the price outside said 29.99 but at the till they weee £42. So about 20quid difference. (The same amount I had just spent in their cafe) anyway my wife come back crying saying that the person who showed her the error was rude and condescending. Not the young lad but the older chap. apparently his wife owned the garden centre and the price was the price. His name may have been Andy as I asked the managers name in the farm shop. Anyway i went back to explain that thier brand of customer service had left My wife in tears and I asked for his an a larger lady’s name who thought it appropriate to wear sunglasses when dealing with customers she replied she didn’t need to give me her name. So long story short rather than write to the manger Andy I’m leaving my review here. Maybe just maybe customer service isn’t the right job for they grey haired sunglasses lady and the person next to her who’s wife ownes the garden centre. Anyway found the same pots on the internet for a fiver less. All this because the people who put things on display can’t be bothered to get the price right and that is not the customers fault it’s yours whatever...
Read moreThis is a friendly place struggling to cope with seasonal fluctuations in demand. Whilst they are trying to diversify into a gift shop, delicatessen, off licence and modern coffee shop it adds up to one hectic chaos of a shopping experience. The plant selection is competitively priced and of well kept quality but the attention to detail overall is what stops them from maximising the opportunity that this venue obviously has. Good parking, a bunch of useful on site franchises; the lawnmower sales and repair establishment is exceptional - they gave me a free 2stroke oil measuring bottle, masses of good advice and good machinery service. But they can be tardy! The sheds, summerhouses and landscaping items are plentiful enough and well displayed. Good for indoor plants. Camping and caravan gear is another area. Worth a visit so that you can pop into the cafe for the best scones around. Also, location wise, it is opposite the local recycling station so one can kill two birds with one stone. Which reminds me, plenty of bird feeders and food are also to be found and are an an example of that seasonal product drive thing I mentioned. But the best thing about the place is the staff who are enduringly helpful and surprisingly...
