Very disappointed this time. Been on many occasions as usually reliable for a goodish meal - but last nights experience was not good. The first table (14) we sat at was freezing cold - at first we thought it was the large windows - but the people sitting right next to that didn't seem to mind, then we noticed a concealed door straight to the outside and the wind was blowing a jet of freezing cold air around it. Our food had just arrived and there didn't seem to be anywhere else to move to - so we ended up having to put coats back on to eat. Although we had always been fairly pleased with the food on offer on previous occasions - last nights Chicken combo was dry and quite unappetising, and having to rush it because we were so cold made it even more disappointing. As soon as we finished eating we took our drinks and moved around the corner and found a table close to where there is usually a log fire, but this wasnt lit. This table (27) seemed to be in another draft - again was really cold so we ate our desserts, picked up our drinks and moved again for a third time to just in front of the cooking station - thinking that at least we would get some heat from the grills. After 10 minutes they decided to clean the cooking stations by spraying some chemicals all over the hot grills and scrubbing them down, so we were then hit with a wave of caustic smelling burnt chemicals - but at least we weren't cold. At this point we decided to call an early end to our night out and finished our drinks. It was just after 9pm and food is served until 11 - so we were interested what would happen if another food order came in - which it did - and food was cooked straight onto the recently sprayed grill plates which must have been tainted by the cleaning sprays as it was only a few minutes after. One thing that I had often commented on when in Wetherspoons puts is how clean the condiment trays are - and i realised why last night. Any container that looked to have been used was thrown away and replaced with a brand new one - even though there was probably only a third of the container used. This is a dreadful waste - that they feel its easier to throw something away rather than have someone run round the bottles with a cloth to clean them. I have been a huge fan of wetherspoons for over 30 years when I first discovered one, as we knew the standard would always be good, however in just one night my opinion of the chain as completely changed having seen the dangerous and wasteful...
Read moreVisited while staying in nearby Bispham. This is a lovely and spacious ground floor spoons with lots of seating. There are a couple of secluded booth areas but the majority are open area. We called in for breakfast and by the time we had got our drinks our food had arrived. This is the quickest we have ever been served and the server was very friendly and made sure we were happy with our meals. Great service thank you 👍👍. Also we called in the same night and again enjoyed lovely food and even though it was far busier it still arrived quickly and was very tasty. It also has an outside area which is very well kept & maintained. The only downside is there is no off Street parking but there is Street parking along either side of the road outside but only for 60 minutes. We had no trouble parking the two times we visited so not a problem. This is a fantastic spoons to visit, along with the lovely food, helpful staff & great service this is a must stop off while in...
Read moreI was served the worst pint in my 56 years of visiting pubs. After 10 minutes it had failed to clear. The "team leader" informed me that Smiths smooth was supposed to be like that. I must have been drinking the damn stuff for 30 years before the cretin was born. The manageress came over and informed me it was probably because it was served in a glass tankard and then proceeded to pull about an eggcup full into a lager glass with a widget proclaiming it was clearing. After a protracted battle I was given a different ale which immediately went flat. I'll tell them the trouble, the lines are filthy. I admit not as bad as the toilets or kitchen staff and they need to check the gas for the ale. Don't go there it must rate as the worst wetherspoons in the country with totally inept management. A customer should not have to suffer the indignity of arguing for a decent...
