Kirton Cottage has recently opened on the site of a former fruit & veg shop in the centre of Kirton village. The refurbishment wasn't an exercise in quickly sprucing the place up in an effort to get it open for business - no, it was an exercise in refurbishing the building, changing its use and decorating to a high standard, all done with creating the correct ambience for a fine dining experience in mind. From the standard of the décor to the silver service place settings, crystal glassware and chinaware - all has been put together with the purpose of creating a setting where you can actually enjoy a true, high quality, restaurant meal.
Let's get one thing straight: this isn't a pub doing food, nor is it a "gastro-pub" - a couple of which can be found in the local area. No, this is a real restaurant offering a fine dining experience.
Front of house is managed by Laura, the maître d', for whom nothing is too much trouble in ensuring your visit is a memorable occasion. Her attention to detail and that of her staff surpasses that of most every other eating establishment in the area. We've visited Kirton Cottage twice now in the last few weeks, each time for dinner, and the experience hasn't differed from one visit to the next.
The food is prepared and presented to a very high standard by Ambrish, the owner and chef - and what's more it's really good with a varied menu and portions are ample. This isn't an attempt at nouvelle cuisine but more akin to haute cuisine, producing an experience more usually found in gourmet restaurants and luxury hotels.
Is it expensive? No, not really - on both visits we've come away with a bill that is only slightly higher than that which we'd usually see at one of the other local "gastro-pubs" but the levels of service and quality of the food, surroundings and atmosphere have far exceeded what we have experienced elsewhere locally at very similar prices.
Will we be visiting again - absolutely!
Should you visit - that's entirely up to you! But if you want to experience a wonderful dining experience in a setting unlike any other in the area then it would have to be top of the list for...

From the moment I stepped in, the welcoming staff made me feel like part of the family. The two serving ladies were especially delightful—I've never heard "thank you" so many times in one evening! They were genuinely friendly and professional, adding to the classy atmosphere of the place. White tablecloths adorned the tables, setting the stage for a delightful evening.
Now, let’s talk about the food—oh my goodness, where do I even begin? Every dish was a masterpiece, beautifully presented with flavors that left me in awe. The mushroom and coconut soup was a standout, boasting an original taste that was simply out of this world! The duck was cooked to perfection, just as I wished, and it melted in my mouth. You can tell the chef is not only experienced but also incredibly passionate about their craft.

Now, let’s talk about the food—it's nothing short of spectacular! Ambrish, the chef, is a culinary wizard who works magic in the kitchen. I started with the mushroom and bacon soup, which was an exquisite combination of flavors. Surprisingly, my husband, who usually shies away from mushroom soup, couldn't stop raving about it after a taste! For his main course, he chose the beef Wellington, and his reaction was priceless: "like hand grenades of flavor exploding in my mouth." This was his first experience with beef Wellington, and it’s safe to say he now prefers it over regular steak, which is a monumental shift for him!
Our server, Laura, added to the exceptional experience with her attentive and subtle service. It was as if she could read our minds, anticipating our needs before we even thought to ask. Her extraordinary service made us feel truly valued and enhanced our meal even further.
We feel incredibly fortunate to have Ambrish and Laura in our village, as Kirton Cottage is indeed a hidden gem. I genuinely believe you wouldn’t find a better meal within a hundred miles. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself, make sure to book a table here—you absolutely...
