Visited here for the first time with my family, we eat out much weekends and try find country pubs, stumbled across this and thought it looked lovely so booked in. Hands down the worst pub meal I've had in a very long time, if not ever. The young lad waiter was lovely. We asked at the beginning if there was anything on the menu they didn't have, he said yes let me check...came back and said no mixed grill..fine. so we all ordered, I ordered steak and ale pie, he came back a few minutes later and said there was no steak and ale pies! Fine. Changed to roast beef dinner. I never complain in a pub, it has to be really really bad for me to bother saying anything but it came out and it had honestly been microwaved, half of it was cold and half really hot. The beef.....worst beef I've ever had I cant actually believe he served it, couldn't cut it, so much fat, stringy, I think I managed to salvage 2 edible mouthfuls. That along with with cold veg. It was honestly disgusting. I told the lad and showed him the beef..he looked to agree and said he would tell the chef. He came back and said the chef was really sorry. And they knocked a drink off our bill? A drink? I barely ate anything and what I did eat was cold!! My husbands meal was cold but he ate it. Others had chicken breast and garlic mushrooms and they said it was OK. They asked if we wanted deserts, in which i said yes as I'm starving still! They had no chocolate fudge cakes or chocolate tarts, which is what I wanted so didn't bother. My Nana had her favourite sticky toffee pudding which she has everytime we go out. She had a mouthful and said oh that's awful, it's like rubber, we all had a bite, I cant believe you can get a sticky toffee pudding wrong! He must have microwaved it too long it was solid rubber, no cake texture, no treacle, it was awful. We had to laugh at this point that it was just a write off meal. We didn't eat the sticky toffee pudding and we didn't complain because we were past it. We actually paid the full bill price too minus the drink they knocked off. We couldn't be bothered making a fuss. We were the only ones in the whole pub, and for a Sunday at 4pm...I think that says it all. Avoid here for a meal you will be highly dissapointed. Nice enough staff...

Firstly, once we had found someone who knew where our table was, we were shown to 3 separate tables when we had booked a table for 14, only to be told that a table of 14 was not possible, this should have been noted at the time of booking as we probably would not have booked. We then had to assist staff to move the tables together.
Secondly, the tables were not set up for a Special Family Christmas Dinner as you would expect. No tablecloths, crackers, decorations, not even cutlery or condiments. The crackers and cutlery were then brought to us at one end of the table and we had to pass them around the table, never have I had to experience this in an eating establishment.
The waitress did her best but it was obvious that she was stressed and she had to keep asking me to check my list to see what we had ordered even though I was told that the list had been printed off in advance.
When the food arrived, it was very disappointing, the below in particular:
• Posh Prawn Cocktail - 5 small defrosted prawns, a slither of salmon, a few lettuce leaves on a saucer! No king prawn to be seen and no sauce. This was far from a 'posh' prawn cocktail. • Goats cheese tart - a slice of soggy quiche • Roast Turkey - the meat was tasteless, the sprouts were hard, the parsnips were watery and tasteless, the yorkshire puddings were burnt. We would have expected stuffing and cranberry, but this was also missing from the plate. We actually sent a Yorkshire pudding back and it was replaced with another burnt one 20 minutes later! Which was obviously rejected and sent back. • Roast Beef - again tasteless and tough as old boots and fatty, again burnt puddings and tasteless veg and very lumpy mashed potatoes. • Salmon Wellington - alot of soggy pastry with a small piece of salmon!
All in all, I have to say extremely disappointing and poor presentation.
To be fair I gave one star because it wouldn’t allow me...
Read moreI booked a table for myself and my son whilst on holiday near by. The 1 star I gave is for the lovely young lady on the bar at the time as she was lush but the food was a different story. I ordered two starters instead of a main meal. My prawn cocktail was OK but nothing flash. Tasted nice enough but fingers crossed I don't wake up with food poisoning as the rest of the food was just awful. I ordered duck spring rolls off the specials board but honestly, they were so tiny and totally over done or they'd been reheated many times. I couldn't taste any duck, only really hard and chewy batter. It was on a bed of salad but it was just soggy lettuce and lots of soggy grated carrot. When they brought it, they told my son there's been a mix up with his food so will have to wait longer. (THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE EATING IN THERE!) In fact there was only two ladies having a drink and then a party of three or four came in for drinks on their walk. Also by this point we'd been in there 40 minutes already and if it was so quiet and no one else eating, how on earth can they forget the other meal!? My son had to sit and watch me eat my prawns. He tried the duck rolls too and agreed. They finally served my son after another 20 mins and his chips were exactly the same. Totally over done, burnt and chewy. When I went to pay at the end, the man asked if everything was OK so I obviously told him not really. I was quite polite only mentioning the awful spring rolls and chips as well as the wait for food, having to eat both our meals alone watching the other and he didn't even offer me anything off! I could kick myself for not insisting he knocked us something off, I think I was in total shock and just paid when he handed the card machine over! Definitely don't recommend. The menu online looks great! Nothing like the actual...
