The Kings Head — Restaurant in Braintree

We picked this pub at random from Google Maps for somewhere to meet for a family meal, as it was convenient for everyone to get to, and we are so glad that we did.

We were seated in the conservatory restaurant which was nice and bright and airy. Everything was clean and tidy, well laid out and comfortable. The staff were absolutely fabulous; very friendly, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

The food was wonderful; there was a large and varied selection for all three courses and everything our party ordered was cooked to perfection, well presented and the portion sizes the most acceptable.

Another thing that please me was that there was a disabled access toilet and as my father was with us and is in a wheelchair, this was very convenient and most welcome. Something you rarely find in pub restaurants.

All in all, The Kings Head was a cracking find. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable family meal and we would definitely be making our way back there...

Booked a table 7pm for 3 of us. Very very slow service, only saw 2 people serving meals. Took ½hr to order a drink & didn't like being called 'guys' several times by the female server. Nothing outstanding on the menu, we had a main each. My lasagne came with garlic bread but the side salad never arrived! Had to ask for the dessert menu & get our dirty plates removed. 2 plates were removed & dessert menu was given. Very 'cakey' offerings, polenta, brownie, cake & rice pudding. No other drinks service was offered, but the server came back as another table had asked for the dessert menu & she needed to show them. We didn't bother with a sweet as it'd taken 2hrs of sitting there already! Went to the bar to pay as we'd no idea how much longer we'd be seated waiting to pay the bill. Obviously no tip was left as the menu was uninspiring & just mediocre, expensive & the lack of serving staff means we won't be returning or recommending the place to...

Me and my partner went here for a meal. I ordered the prawns for starter, they were tasteless and it should have come with bread but I got none. My partner ordered the calamari for starter and they were bang average, the sauce they came with saved them some-what. For main we both ordered the fish and chips. The fish batter was very oily and the fish itself was watery, almost like it was frozen and they had to deep fry it for so long to defrost it. The chips wasn’t any better as they was very oily, like taking a mouthful of oil. We sat for over 15 minutes waiting for someone to check on us and give us the bill, I had to go up to the restaurant bar to get the bill after waiting another 5 minutes. Once I got the bill they tried charging me more for an item we didn’t have. We had no apology, no courtesy discount as we hardly ate our main…nothing. Very disappointing…will not be going...
