Extremely limited menu, no flexibility to leave certain elements off a dish/swap to an easy alternative if you have an intolerance and simply told to have a sandwich instead...whether that is what you would like or not! Food appears to be batch cooked/ frozen rather than fresh meaning no reasonable adjustments for customers' requirements are considered or possible. Very pleasant first waitress who was thoughtful and polite but, sadly, was prevented from helping as the chef was unwilling to make a very minor and simple adjustment to a dish that would have taken a minute at most. Disappointed with the overall approach to customers (apart from the initial waitress who was very pleasant and wanted to try and help) as well as the food which was distinctly underwhelming. Would not bother again and would not recommend unless, of course, you want to make do with a stale scone that's been stacked up on display and uncovered which is going more stale by the minute...not very hygienic or appetising!
Comments regarding Mr Clayton's first response:
Dear Mr Clayton,
I feel there has been some confusion as I didn't order what you've detailed in your reply. In fact, nothing in the response matches up. You clearly have the wrong person. It's advisable to ascertain the facts before posting. Also, I'm sorry that my other reviews (all extremely complimentary) seem to have upset you. Incidentally, I reviewed a fantastic restaurant earlier today but I'm just sorry I could not be as complimentary about my experience at Browns Cafe.
Comments regarding Mr Clayton's second response:
Dear Mr Clayton,
As stated, I am very sorry that I was unable to provide Browns with a more positive review on this occasion and that you are now clearly feeling very disappointed and somewhat defensive. I am sure that you have the wrong person in mind when writing your responses which I did draw your attention to previously. I didn't order what you stated and have no aversion to onions which you seem to focus on.
Much of your response has the tone and structure of a meandering tirade with some distinctly unpalatable remarks sprinkled throughout such as mention of frozen cats and a person who clearly experienced a traumatic event which you then appear to joke about and link to choking on a stale scone. I do not know if you felt this was funny but I find it rather disgusting and extremely insensitive.
When dealing with customer feedback re negative experiences, I would refer to the following as a way of sensitively and supportively approaching this (see the template I have made you below):
Dear Customer (insert title and name),
I am extremely sorry to learn that your experience was not what you had hoped for. This is, of course, disappointing for us as we always aim to please and provide positive dining experiences for our customers. On this occasion, we were unable to meet your expectations and clearly did not manage to show you the wonderful food and service we pride ourselves on delivering.
We take feedback very seriously and use this to shape and inform continuous improvement as customer satisfaction is a number one priority for us.
With that in mind, we would welcome you back and endeavour to provide you with a much more positive experience which you can then review.
Yours sincerely, Owner/ Manager (insert...

Staff at Browns Café are friendly and provide service with a smile. Their welcoming nature enhances the experience, making it more enjoyable.
The highlight of my visits to Browns has to be their delicious cakes. If you have a sweet tooth, their range of baked goods is worth trying out. Served both indoors and outdoors, their offerings are priced fairly, making it a good choice for casual meetings or a quiet afternoon by yourself.
The outdoor seating area, while charming, does overlook the street. This could be a slight drawback for those looking for a quiet outdoor experience as traffic noises are unavoidable. However, if the hustle and bustle of city life doesn't bother you, the outdoor seating could be a nice way to enjoy your coffee and cake.
Overall, I'd give Browns Café a well-deserved four-star rating. With its stylish décor, friendly staff, and delicious cakes, it's an excellent café choice. The only minor drawback is the street-side location of the outdoor seating, but that's easily overlooked for the café's other merits. Highly recommended for a quick stop-over or a...

Was asked, inside or out & chose outside was given a flimsy "menu" & told to find a table then come & order. Went back in with table number and returned to await order. Eventually sandwich arrived, & told to get/help myself to the cutlery & serviettes ! Which were all together available for all ensundry to paw & touch outside in area dogs allowed etc. Furniture that would be found offered at most car boot sales. Told the server I am still awaiting the coffee was told there is a delay. ?? Cup of white coffee ?? After time coffee arrived no sugar! So off to table again to get as server simply wandered off. Coffee & Ham Sandwich £8.20 (clever pricing as 30p/80p is keep change rounding trick) And joy to see a Huge tips bowl on desk as a crude tempter, where one gets to pay for the experience. Needless to say won't repeat, esp as Tesco & Morrisons Cafe are 15min further on. Cleaner, efficient, less...
