Shapla Tandoori — Restaurant in Breckland District

Was given a miniature take away curry which was in a container that would not have held three boiled eggs!

This was deceptive as the curry dish was advertised as a main meal NOT a side dish and lack of honesty here means that this restaurant get 1 point from me.

When I mentioned the fact that I had ordered a main dish and not a side dish, the manager brazenly said " that I could buy two of the side dishes if I wanted.... " to make up a main dish despite that I had never ordered a side dish to begin with! My jaw dropped in astonishment!

It was rather silly as it is not like the purchaser is not going to realise this when he takes his or her Take Away dish out of the bag and I would stress to this restaurant that it needs to deal truthfully with it's customers.

If you are going to serve main meal curry dishes in tiny ' side dishes ' then these should be LISTED as ' micro side curry dishes ' and NOT main meals on the menu and is incidentally, a breach of the Trade Descriptions Act (i.e false advertising).

My advice would be to eat in and not order a Take Away dish in order to avoid this particular scam !

A lack of integrity and deception is what let's this place down rather than perhaps unusually, the quality of the food...

This is one of the very few occasions that I post a review; I ordered a takeaway, the restaurant wasn’t busy when I arrived but a good number of people came in while I was waiting. Waiting being the word-after being told to collect in an hour, I had to wait another 40 min, while other people who came in after me had their order. Now, I can accept that things go wrong, but I hate being repeatedly lied to, they forgot my order, and didn’t slip it into the schedule for another half an hour! The young waiter repeatedly told me five mins after I’d been there twenty minutes. Then to compound the situation they use old fashioned foil trays and then don’t fit the lids correctly, cramming the containers into the bag. The order was wrong when we opened it! The food was chewy chicken in a basic sauce with chilli powder added. Rubbery popadoms with very poor pickles, strangely accompanied by nearly a huge bag of onions. Onion Bhaji’s were biscuit flat and tasteless. The place is busy but it’s a small town and they’ve enjoyed a good reputation for many years, but eat in, don’t risk the takeaway. Reasonable food let down by cheeky staff and 'micro take away main meal portions''

On entering and paying I was told to 'go and sit over there' while waiting for my £7.90 curry¥ take away). 15 minutes later, I was given a curry that was in a side dish package that was designed to be holding side dishes such as chutney/onions etc.. the entire portion of curry could have fitted into the palm of your hand if emptied into it and all the while being served as 'main meals' on the public menu system. I had counted just over 7 full tablespoons of this 'take away portion' and four small pieces of meat while back home and while reasonae tasty, this was no excuse for lying to customers prior to orders being made..

Side dish packages are of course designed for side dishes while main meal dishes for main meals!

I reported this to trading standards as false advertising who are investigating why this is...
