Quite disappointed with my Sunday lunch experience. I had high hopes and was really excited to visit, as it's the sister pub of the really outstanding venue "The Lodge" near Tuddenham which sadly I was unable to get a table at.
It turned out to be a poor relative. The beef appeared to be pre-sliced rather than straight from a carvery and totally lacked flavour. This was served with a tiny portion of lackluster veg and a slightly soggy Yorkshire pudding and a small spoon of gravy, redeemed only slightly by the roast potatoes. But it was worlds apart from The Lodge. I followed it with apple crumble and custard which was very sour and only had a dusting of crumble, served in a painfully hot ramekin with no room for the custard.
We sat outside because there was some loud heavy rock music playing in the bar which wasn't really fitting for a Sunday lunch. The beer garden was tatty and had a really odd out of place graffiti wall facing us. There was no separate area for smokers either so we did have smoke drifting over as we ate.
Maybe it was down to a 'Sunday lunch special' menu that was (to be fair) reasonably priced. I would have paid more for something better like they prepare at The Lodge. But whatever, I was very underwhelmed with the food and very disappointed...
Read moreExcellence all round! Delicious food, fantastic service and great atmosphere. A varied menu to cater for all tastes and dietary requirements. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble, all staff were attentive without being intrusive. The food...Wow! I had the lasagne and I have to say it was probably the best I've ever had (don't tell my mum!!) it was delicious, plenty of meat, I find some places bulk it out with lots of tomato/veg, and the garlic bread was banging. We all had a variety of meals and everyone said how delicious it all was. The portion sizes are good and creates excellent value for money. Good choice of deserts, all about £8/8.50 which some would consider more on the pricey side but when it comes to the quality and time/effort that goes into them, they are worth it. Service was good, and food served in a timely manner considering it was a very busy evening! All in all a lovely dining experience. We look forward...
Read moreMy family and I had dinner here in the early evening when the restaurant was quiet, so we expected a smooth experience. Unfortunately, my husband’s order was incorrect — it wasn’t what he ordered with the waitress. When we raised this, the waitress offered a half-hearted apology and gave him two options: reorder the correct meal (which meant the rest of us would be eating separately) or accept the wrong meal with a discount.
My husband chose to keep the incorrect meal with the offered discount, which turned out to be 50% off his main — around £8. While mistakes happen, what disappointed us most was the attitude of the staff. We felt like we were the inconvenience, despite the fact that the error was clearly theirs.
Good customer service is just as important as the food, and sadly this experience let the whole evening down. A more genuine, customer-focused approach would go a long way — and likely lead to more...
