So, I will first add that I did get £15 back for the 1 steak but still feel like writing this review, we originally came in for a roast on a Sunday, however they had none, picked other items that they also didn't have, went for the steak with chips and seasonal veg, a chicken flatbread and a kids steak meal, mine came out looking like sad, reminded me or a 1980s middle America truck stop meal, but worse, steak came out on a mildly warm skillet with some wet onion slop served next to it, a kind of milky onion juice, the steak albeit actually cooked how I'd asked was medium rare, but quite possibly the fattiest I'd had in many moons, I'm not talking the nice crust fat either, I'm talking sinew, a dog would struggle, kids steak equally poor. Manager said "we can't choose what cows we kill" I laughed it off and thought surely relay that to the place you buy them, considering the other lady said they can be hit and miss,
Onto the chips, they came out like they had spent a week tanning in Blackpool during the winter, cheapest catering chips ever some sort of heron foods frozen special, the seasonal veg was 36 peas, wasn't aware frozen peas needed to be seasonal but hey.
Then the chicken flatbread was some dry as deep fried skewer of sad served on a bed of lifeless lettuce, you know when you're not sure if it's brown, yellow or green. The bread was actually quite good though. Guessing it was bought in from a place that actually takes pride in what they create.
On the atmosphere I've never seen such battered chairs peeling fake leather everywhere and toilets that were just so scatty and everything rusted and an over bearing jeyes fluid council flat bin area smell. I thought I'd stepped back in time like goodnight sweetheart, but instead of landing in 1944 wartime Britain, worse I'd landed in 1998 Garry Owen toilets.
Quite frankly though the front of house staff are absolutely first class and to have those smiles in that environment takes a lot, the older guy collecting the plates was such a gent, and was the one who suggested a refund, which I wasn't that bothered about, just felt like I'd been mugged at 40 quid for that level of food.
You think in Shirley it might be nice, but you can tell its mainly a drinkers pub,
Hopefully Greene King do something about this pub in terms of a makeover, interior and exterior a new menu with better suppliers, more focus on dry trade too, give the staff a round of applause and a parish, whilst taking more of a look into the kitchen staff and the level of care that goes on to the plate,
I still wake up in hot sweats thinking about...
Read moreThe man serving behind the bar had fantastic service was really polite, seemed to be running the pub. It's a shame as I overheard he was leaving to work in Wolverhampton but he seems your best employee.
The food here was superb. Tasted amazing the only reason I have not rated 5 stars is due to the girl serving the food. From first impression she was polite and very good however after our main course we ordered dessert and we waited nearly 3 times longer for this to be brought out we only ordered fudge cake. Despite the man behind the bar telling her 3 times we and 2 other guest was waiting for dessert she was not in any rush to serve. We sat near the kitchen and could hear her laughing in the back with the kitchen staff and again the man behind the bar telling her people was waiting for food. When it was finally delivered after the man apologising to us, she brought it over and there was no 'sorry for your wait' it was simply placed on the table. It seems as this was ending the night all service manners was lost. There was a couple who requested a refund due to waiting so long and left. To which we overheard a conversation taking place between the man behind the bar and the waitress asking her why she'd taken so long. Her response did not show care and it was laughed off.
Upon leaving the man behind the bar apologised again. For this I have no rated 5 stars as the service by your kitchen staff and this young lady let you down. Other than this the food was amazing and the service to begin with was fantastic, had it not been later In the evening I have no doubt the service would of remained fantastic but to wait 40 mins for pudding when there was only 4 guest eating was a bit...
Read moreNot visited The Drawbridge for many years but went for a late lunch & was pleased with the visit. Place was clean & nicely appointed - much as one would expect for a typical "chain" pub that offers food. Staff were friendly & service was good at the table, although there was a bit of a wait to be served each time at the busy bar. The food was nicely cooked, hot on arrival at the table, proportions good & meals well presented. Menu, though relatively extensive was typical "pub grub" - didn't cater much for less spicy, lower carb & low sugar diets - which in my case limited the choice. It catered mostly for steak, burger or spicy dishes & lots of variations on fries. Only 1 fish dish (in batter) , 1 scampi (in breadcrumbs) & limited salad options. However they were happy to add veggie sides that weren't on the menu so thankfully I did enjoy my meal. Other members of my party enjoyed their Surf n turf meals too, which they finished & agreed had been very nice. Would be happy to...
