I was so impressed with this establishment, its positivity. Its warm and welcoming team,,, that instead of just having a coffee and cake, we stayed and had the full Sunday lunch, so taken with the delightful team and explanation of what was on offer, we decided we couldn’t leave without trying the product, so much so we had to cancel an 9 course, fine dining experience we had booked for the evening nearby.
The cherry on the cake has to be enthusiastic and helpful service personnel, led by the charismatic and informative general manager, James, his passion for his establishment and produce meant we had no other decision to make than stay! Normally run as a café, it looked like they worked to do a new concept, and it certainly worked, the most delightful variety of Sunday lunches, that other leading establishment would find hard to compete with. I have had the good fortune of running high class, hospitality, establishments all around the world, all with many food outlets, I have also contributed to many TV programmes and magazines, and I have to say my head is not easily turned , however, on this occasion, the honesty, the package and the overall warmth had me talking and reminiscing for many hours after. It is refreshing in the quick turnover of establishments and staff, that some places still hold onto the belief of good honest food served with a genuine smile , determination and delivery.

Read moreBeen here a couple of times now and the place is lovely. Really nice spot but the service hasn’t been great. The first time it was busy, it took 15 mins to put 2 cakes in a takeaway box. But the food was nice so we went back for my partners birthday brunch. We got there and looked at the goats and then went in to order. There was a queue so we sat down and took our coats off etc. got up to order and the waitress wasn’t too nice, tried to order brekkie and she said the cut offs 1130. We both looked at the clock and it was 11:37. She just stared at me. I said can we have brekkie and she said no. We didn’t bother ordering food just coffees and a kids meal. The kids meal came and she asked if we wanted sauce. Asked for ketchup and it never came. It wasn’t particularly busy, around half the tables were free. She never did a check back or anything. It annoys me when customers get different level of service, it’s as if she didn’t want to serve us. But the table next to us got check backs, sauces, pleasantries. They were still bringing out peoples breakfast when we were getting ready to leave so I don’t see what the issue was. We actually travelled 25 mins to come and it was my partners birthday. We had to feed our little one hence why we stayed and had coffee. Wasn’t the best experience to be honest. Probably wouldn’t go out my way...
Read moreAmazing little cafe in Romsley, even for a busy Saturday morning, there wasn't a great deal of noise inside. We found a table and placed an order for breakfast and coffees, which turnaround was nice and fast. Food was incredible, eggs benedict (with a side of black pudding) were all freshly made and delicious, eggs cooked to perfection. The coffee was smooth and mellow, I couldn't see what roaster they used but was perfect for a breakfast drink. Prices are comparable to similar cafes in the area, but by sheer service alone trumps most of them. The range of cakes looked great. However, there was a lack of a vegan option. They are aware of this, so no doubt there will be some later on. The chefs are attentive to any allergies, and there are signs to inform if there are any in your party. One nice little extra is the water available. A lot of cafes offer a water dispenser with glasses, but Rickyard have pre-filled bottles to take to your table. I like this idea, as it prevents waiting for the dispenser to be available and stops people juggling multiple filled glasses if there's a group on the table.
Rickyard is definitely...
