Having been here many many times pre renovation and new menu....we used to love it. The 241 meals were always good, we never had a bad meal it was as you would expect for 241 pub grub. Tonight we gave this place a try thinking it would be the same food- wise but just renovated inside. Well, the menu is now more limited and isn't 241 so obviously works out more expensive but that is fine if you're getting better food. My husbands starter was ribs and they were awful....2 tiny ribs the meat looked black and had the most wierd taste as if the meat was off, he had to send them back even the waiter said they looked strange. Granted they gave us a refund for them. He ordered sweet potato fries with his meal and apart from about 5 fries the rest were just burnt little bits of fries that were obviously the left overs as you can see in the photo. Neither of the main meals were great, by this time we thought lets just go. Needless to say, this place was far better before....why fix something that wasn't broken 🤔 really disappointed and rather sad as this was always a family favourite when the sun was shining we would come here with the children and have a nice affordable meal. Wont be returning.

We visited The Sun 2nd June as a group of three around 7:30pm (table number 38) and unfortunately, left feeling very let down. While our meals were served quickly, the quality of the food was far below expectations. The chicken and mushroom pie was particularly underwhelming—the pastry was dry and lacked any crispiness, as if it had simply been reheated rather than freshly cooked. The gravy that accompanied it was lukewarm and had an unappetizing, gelatinous texture. We requested a replacement, only to receive the same again. It wasn't until our third attempt that we were finally given a properly heated, steaming portion of gravy. Overall, the food felt like it had been sitting out for some time before being served. The peas were cold, and the entire experience gave the impression of pre-prepared meals hastily put together. To make matters worse, there were several flies in the dining area, one of which landed on a plate and wouldn’t leave us alone throughout the meal. It made the whole experience quite unpleasant. Sadly, we won’t be returning for food, and I can’t recommend this place to others. Spending nearly £60 on a meal like this was disappointing, to say the least.

Came here on a quiet Monday evening with my partner. Upon arrival the staff all night were very friendly and attentive. We used the app and bar to order food and the service on the app and bar was very quick. The food however wasn't as good as I remember it. Barely any offers on the menu. No offers on starters which we didn't have many as there wasn't much options. We were also given beer battered mushrooms that we didn't order however one of the members of staff knew straight away and took it away and gave us what we originally ordered. The sweet potato fries were overdone, my steak and gammon on the mixed grill were very chewy so I had to leave most of it. Also when having bottles of cider we were given dirty glasses. One glass had seeds stuck to the sides, more glasses had lipstick stains. Really loved the chicken kastu loaded fries. Overall a nice little place in the countryside with lovely staff and great drinks selection especially outside in the sun. Just if I was to come for food again I'd probably just stick to sides and smaller plates. Would revist.

The Sun is one of our local go to places for convenient family meals and, to be fair, we've rarely had negative experiences before. This visit however was not great.

It was busy inside, which you'd expect for a Sunday afternoon (especially with a recent 30% offer flyer through the post), but there seemed to be a real lack of ownership for the area we were in by any particular waiter. The order was taken by the manager on a pad of paper - I said at the time that this was refreshing as it's so common now to order through an app and have very limited human interaction. The drinks came quickly, but were slightly incorrect; only minor things - ice in ones that shouldn't have, no lemon in one that had been requested. Nothing major.

The food order though was disappointing - two meals were completely muddled in that the burger had been plated up as the 'light' option and the steak the 'normal'. This should have been the other way round - we explained this to a couple of waiting staff, who both seemed perplexed by what was going on.

When the right meals did arrive (almost 10 minutes later - the rest of the meals at the table were now half way through) the steak meal was still incomplete - missing the rice side. When this was queried, again to two different wait staff, there seemed to be more confusion between them. I had finished the meal by the time someone had managed to work out what was going on; the kitchen had run out of rice and, seemingly, just plated it up as 'normal'. At no point were we advised that half the meal was missing and no apology was made.

To top it off, one of the desserts was ordered as gluten free and when it arrived and we asked to check if it was indeed gluten free, no one seemed to know. It was taken back to the kitchen to be sure and wasn't returned until all of the other desserts around the table had been finished.

We were then brought two separate drink orders we had not ordered and were almost accused of lying when we said they weren't ours - "they're not yours? Are you sure?".

All in all, I think we were 'served' by 6 different individuals, none of who seemed to have any ownership over us or the area.

A disappointing meal and one that will make us think twice about going back...

We had a table booked for 630 Saturday evening, it's been a while since we have dined out as a family with the current costs of things going up we are watching our money. Having previously been here before it looks like we share a few of the latest people's anger with how this place has sadly changed. We were seated fine with no issues and were told it would be a 45 minute wait on food. We waited a good 10 minutes for drinks to begin with having tried to flag somebody down. We were served by a young lady that finally managed to take both food and drinks order granted pleasant enough to begin with. When the food arrived at the table I bit into my kebab and straight away said to my partner it was cold, she also had the same problem with her dish along with the fries. My son also had the chicken burger which was exaclty the same bun was burnt and the chicken had gone cold. We did have a checkback on the food and I immediately told the young lady of our issues which she then changed her attitude towards us no empathy but in a stern voice just said well do you want me to get you another one? The tone in her voice had already set the mood of how this one was going to finish. I said we would just take the bill and speak to the manager. We spoke to the manager that gave us a reason that the young people coming in need better coaching skills how to deal with people when giving good customer service and that the chicken is always probed before being sent out, but she couldn't say as to why it was cold in between it being under the hotplate and being sent to the table maybe it was sitting there longer than it should. She also told us it would be an hour wait for food when we were told it was 45 mins which wasn't an issue to us but shot herself in the foot. We hadn't touched our food and they would have still been happy to take our money had we not kicked up such a fuss, felt totally let down as we have been here previously, even though we managed to get a refund I'm not sure I believed the half hearted apology and we will not...

Sadly we made the mistake of attending when the sun was shining. No pun intended. What an awful experience. We booked a table two days before thinking this would help the up and coming nice weather crowds descending. How wrong I was. I had to find a staff member when we arrived to inform them as no one was on meet and greet. We’d booked a table for our celebration dinner. People are still sat at your table we were told when we finally found a staff member. You need to wait. Another 20 minutes until the manager appears to clear the now vacant table only to be told there’s an hour wait for food and they don’t do table service anymore which is poor and we’d need to join the line to order at the bar. This line was out of the door! The manager just pulled a face when I said we were leaving. No apology. Nothing. We went to the harvester instead with our money and a table of five where we were served by staff and made to feel welcome. Please don’t make the same mistake and just go somewhere else, especially if it’s a lovely day. Response to owner No Diana we won’t be back which is sad as I’d previously provided a 5 star review when we last attended and it was table service. If I raised my voice I apologise but the lack of service or interest we received wasn’t acceptable. This was a a special day after 8 months of hardship for our family. Pre booked tables should take priority in my opinion or what’s the point in booking. Making us wait at the bar isn’t acceptable both when our table wasn’t ready or to order food and drinks. The restaurant was empty. 10 minutes or 20 I’m not splitting hairs. It’s still not acceptable. We could have easily been sat at another reserved table and things shuffled around but no. Non of my party heard any apology including me and even my father said “she really didn’t care did she.” All the recent low star reviews can’t all be wrong. The harvester was busy but they still managed to seat us straight away and serve us so I’m sorry but the issue is the Sun. It’s changed and not...
