My husband and I had dinner at The Nailers on 26th August. Within about 30 minutes of returning home I began to feel very unwell and proceeded to vomit on and off all night. I am still not recovered after a couple of days and unable to eat properly. It was clear to me that it was something I'd eaten. I'd even commented on the battered prawns not seeming to be very crispy when at the restaurant. My husband and I ate the same lunch but we had different dinners at The Nailers. I was concerned and wanted to give them a heads up that their food preparation/hygiene was obviously not up to scratch and I had no intention of writing this post.... had I been treated respectfully that would have stayed the case. The current manager called me after my initial contact and was immediately defensive instead of apologising and saying they would look into it. He condescendingly started explaining about how the prawns were cooked and constantly talked over me all the while calling me darling and my lovely! When I asked him to please not do that I put the phone down on him when he didn't! I'm sure he would not have spoken to a man in such a patronising and condescending manner! I hoped he would call back to apologise but of course that didn't happen! That such an important issue wasnt taken seriously made me check their current food hygiene rating and I was shocked to find it's only 3/5 'generally good' I would never eat at any restaurant that was only 'generally good'! Had I known it had taken such a downturn from when run by Phil and Shula who had a 5/5 rating I would never have gone. I won't be eating here again and strongly suggest you...
Read moreOur party of 4 arrived at 1 o’clock for a pre booked table and the food and drinks orders were taken quite promptly but the simple starters did not arrive until 45 minutes later. By 2.15 our starter plates had still not been cleared and there was no sign of our main courses being served. Despite the lounge being only half full no staff had given attention to the area where we were sitting. Eventually I approached the bar area where I spoke to the waitress who had shown us to our table and I had to say to her three times that service appeared a bit slow but when were we going to receive our main courses, eventually she replied “I don’t know, I didn’t take your order”!
I was then about to address the same query to the waiter (who turned out to be the manager?) who had served our starters, but he bore down on me saying that he wanted me to leave. I asked why and he raised his voice saying that I had been aggressive. I was surprised to say the least and when I asked what he thought I had said he could only say “I don’t know but it sounded aggressive ”!!
I tried to calmly reason with him but he seemed very agitated and although he did admit that we had an unacceptably long wait he was still very keen that we should leave the premises. After all of this farcical behaviour we were happy to comply.
I should point out that three of our party were in out seventies, my wife is in her late sixties and none of us have been aggressive in our lives.
If you should make the mistake of visiting the Nailers be prepared for a long wait for your meal but be careful not to complain as your justifiable annoyance may be perceived as...
Read moreVisited yesterday with family for a birthday celebration. Have been here a number of times and was quite disappointed today. The food was ok but felt very rushed by the staff. Arrived in good time for our table and it was not ready, eventually sat down later than our 4pm booking time. We were advised by the waiter that we would need to vacate the table by 6pm. This is not enough time to eat a meal, especially when some of your party have meals from the menu and the rest have carvery. The menu meals arrived so the rest of us went to the carvery. We waited 20 minutes in a queue so by the time we sat back down the others had finished their meals, we ate our carvery and some wanted desserts. We were reminded that they would need the table back AGAIN! Would it not make sense to allow 3 hours for people eating? We would have had no chance if people wanted starters. It felt like a production line, the staff were not engaging with the customers and it just felt manic. I understand that you would get more sittings squeezed in and therefore more profit, but when it compromises the standards of customer service then it it worth it?? I will definitely think twice about booking a table here again on a Sunday, especially as it was a special occasion and it put a...
