Incredibly Rude and Unprofessional Staff - Stay Away!!

Recommend staying away from this place. Some of the staff don't know how to talk to customers. There seems to be a real attitude problem - my view was only supported later when i read management response to some bad reviews on tripadvisor.

Went to this place with friends, 7 of us and an infant. 2 of us arrived at 145pm with the rest of the party joining at 215pm. Our food order was placed by 230/235pm. Around 250pm the lady (who i believe was the manager) comes to our table and incredibly rudely tells us that the kitchen closes at 230pm and the waitresses were mistaken to have taken our order. Also it was somehow our fault that since this order was taken late the kitchen staff would have to stay back an hour longer which was not fair to them (table was booked for 2pm). She said this and walked off which essentially meant that we had simply received a telling off which needed no response from us.

Having sat there for over an hour, the closing time of the kitchen was news to us as no one mentioned this while or prior to taking our order. We could have easily ordered much earlier if the closing time was mentioned to us even once.

At this point we all decided to cancel our order as we dont want to be served by this staff. We walked out after paying for our drinks and found another pub just 4 mins away which had lovely staff.

The manager did not have any consideration for the fact that we had an infant and a pregnant woman in the group who...

Went to the Galley Hall this lunchtime. It was pleasantly bustling, with lots of small tables filled, a sign of a popular pub, especially it being midweek. I didn't think I would need to book, but it's probably advisable, especially at weekends. Met by very friendly staff, who we shared banter with and who clearly knew their menu. Portions were generous to say the least, but often when that's the case, the food lacks quality. Not the case here! Finished it off with an apparently award winning cheesecake. Can I just say that in my opinion the tag was justified. And then at the end of it all, we got the bill... And ... Hey presto... Very reasonable!! Always a nice way to end meal time!! So all in all a great choice for our lunchtime dinner. Probably the worst part was seeing the staff walk past us with some fab looking meals that I hadn't ordered from their comprehensive menu. Oh well, a reason to...

We came for a Christmas meal. Initially when driving in, was thankful for a large car park - but people had left such large gaps between vehicles I ended up sitting in car waiting for someone to leave. Once parked, went in and was told where our table was. We had pre-ordered so you need to remember what you asked for (I just about remembered what I fancied 2 months previous when we ordered!!) They had no copies of the menu on hand to remind you.

Food itself was really nice, they provided some extra gravy with the dinner in case we wanted it - which was nice. Not much waiting around either, in fact we had to tell them to give us an extra 10 mins between mains and deserts!

Nice place, and I wouldn't mind coming back to try a normal meal at some point when it's not...

First time coming to Galley Hall. Well, it will certainly be the first of many going by this evening. Came here for the Burns Night fayre, with my wife & another couple of he, who is Scotish. So, I had the traditional menu, All had a starters, and I had the 'Cock a leekie' then the main was red wine & venison stew... wow, absolutely delicious. Lovely sized portion & nice & hot, a bug bear when food isn't. The service was really good, noticed most (if not all) serving staff were ladies, very attentive & polite / chatty. We all had different 3 course meals, & the food went down very well. Everything cooked beautifully. It worked out for 3 courses, 2 drinks & a night cap & gratuity (which was well deserved) about £50 a head. I am looking forward to my next visit already.

The Galley Hall has an excellent terraced garden with views across the delightful Hertfordshire farmland. The owners have invested significantly in many facilities over the years, the inside of the pub is still old world charming, with a great regular menu - meal costs have been held at pre-covid levels - many pubs are jacking up prices. The pub catches the sun late evening so it's charming to relax on the terrace in glorious warmth. Note, some photos taken at about 5pm so the pub looks quiet. As it's a freehouse there is a wonderful selection of beers and cider on tap.
