We visited on a Saturday which in hindsight wasn't the best day. We have been several times in the past & one thing that usually stands out (for a Green King pub) is the range of quality cask ales available. Today was no exception, the mainstays are usually Hawshead bitter, Odin pale, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Bank Top Flat Cap to name four & two others, Speckled Hen and usually one from Bowland. In my experienkce the beers have always been well kept & in good condition, today was no exception. Unfortunately, (for me) the pub has several TV's and it just happened to coincide with a "match day", consequently it was really noisy. Luckily the pub is big enough to usually find a side space away from the worst of it. During the week it is usually a lot quieter. The menu is pretty typical of "pub" style offerings , but is varied enough to cater for most tastes with a special limited lunchtime menu offered at reduced rates. All the items we ordered were freshly cooked, tasty & represented good value. The only downside on the day were the toilets which sadly were not the cleanest. All that said, overaul it was a pleasent experience, the beer was excellent & the food hit the spot. To top it off the staff were helpful & friendly. Addendum: Made a follow up visit on the evening of Thurs 4th Jan 24, as on my previous visit the pub was very noisy, in that there were several small groups of over happy people who were extremley loud. Luckily I did manage to find a quieter spot in a side room. Once again the beers were in excellent condition, having tried the Odin, Hawkshead Pale, Flat Cap & Landlord. Despite it being busy the two staff behind the bar were unphased & both were pleasent & helpful. I didn't manage to check the toilets this time, but overall it was a very...

Decided finally to leave a review as this pub has gone downhill since CoVid and I’ve been drinking in there for many years. Most annoying thing is that the staff seem to make up last order times, Sunday nights been regularly told last orders has gone (Before 10pm???) but seen this on other night too, not just Sunday. Saw a group of 10 people turned away last night, not for the first time. Doesn’t seem to matter if busy or quiet and when I questioned this I was told if mega-busy they’ll call last orders early, if quiet they’ll do the same. Seems the pub just wants to serve families and walkers in the day and doesn’t care about those wanting a decent late evening pint - they just want to go home early. As for the food, it needs massive improvement. My wife ordered a veggie burger a few months back and it was so overcooked you couldn’t bite into it. We then went back and ordered chicken goujons last week. My wife violently ill all night. Don’t think we’ll ever eat there again and the only reason I’m giving it 2 stars is that the real ale is decent. Greene King need to get their act together as people will go to other pubs instead or stay at home. once the recession kicks in. Finally a note to the pub - please make it clear on the door and website, opening and closing times so regular loyal customers know exactly when they can enjoy a pint without thinking last orders may have already...

Me and a friend arrived here after a very long bike journey, we were glad to find bike parking round the back (and for a £5 deposit you can borrow a lock!). We went inside and the atmosphere was immediately welcoming, the decor was particularly cute. We were also glad to find they had free wifi as we had to plan our journey home! We ordered food and both the chicken and bacon burger, and the veggie burger were delicious! We were impressed to find barbecue sauce being served with the chips, especially as this isn't seen too often - but should be!! The food arrived promptly. The bar service was also excellent, the man who served us was cheery and welcoming, the rest of the staff also seemed particularly nice and like they enjoyed their job! When we went to the toilet we were delighted to find a hamper of toiletries, since we'd been on a bike ride this was particularly welcome! Food was well priced, especially considering the quality of the pub and the food. Although we didn't get drinks we noticed that there was a large selection of ales, also reasonably priced. To top it off they gladly filled our water bottles ready for the journey home. Highly recommend this lovely pub, our only regret being we don't live locally - we need to get planning...

The food was different, for example, I had smoked pulled mushroom chilli with rice, which was a dish I've never seen elsewhere, they also had a vegetarian Katsu curry which my friend had the chicken version and said it was delicious, it definitely smelled nice and my other friend had a burger with chips and onion rings which again looked very tasty, again they did a vegetarian version. Other options were; mac n cheese, supergrain salad with corn ribs or vegan burger. Although the chap who served us was pleasant enough, it would have been nice if he'd taken our order at the table, especially since it was quiet when we first entered at 6pm. I'm not sure who's fault it was, but we received our main courses before our starters. They obviously took them away, but we had to wait longer for them to make them. Again some different vegetarian options including; halloumi fries with chilli sauce, meat-less tacos, which were a bit dry, corn ribs or nachos to share. I'll definitely go again and try the other vegetarian dishes, worth a second visit. PS. I apologise for the poor photos as we'd started eating before I remembered to take a picture.

Great pub for eating and drinking after a walk up to Peel Tower! Decent menu and reasonable prices for pub classics. Always have a few decent beers on the tap too. If you're looking to watch the footie here then definitely get in touch in advance. Great place to watch the match with table service and loads of screens. Staff are all friendly as well which was nice.
