Used Google Maps to find somewhere to eat for Sunday dinner, as couldnât be bothered cooking, and Hark to Dandler appeared with a good rating. Upon arrival, we thought perhaps they had stopped serving food (sign said until 6pm for Sunday Roast) but enquiring within the kitchen was still open - and so very glad we went inside to ask! I tried the Bury Black Puddjng Scotch Egg starter - what can I say?! Absolutely knocked it out of the park, from the crisp outing to the soft egg to the delicious mix of sausage meat and black pudding, all set off with a honey glaze. Recommended! Fish and Chips - crispy batter and beautifully cooked fish, chips cooked to perfection - crispy outsides, soft inners! My choice was for the chicken burger - strike any thoughts of McDâs flattened chicken patties on limp buns, this was superb! Succulent, tasty, side of chips and a refreshing side salad. Did think the serving of peas wasnât needed, though! Decided to try the Jam Roly Poly pudding - wow! Super light sponge, delicious jam filling and home made custard - what an amazing end to the meal! Huge plus point for me is that Inches Cider is on draft! Landlord has only been there for three months, but looking to make a mark with the food offerings and definitely doing so here! Will be back again to sample more...
Read moreThe only surviving local pub in the area, having seen all its competition close over the years. Despite being the only survivor it is a lovely local pub serving the community of Walmersley. It's tied to Robinsons brewery, so beers are limited, with their Manchester bitter being the mainstay, together with the usual generic lagers etc. I had the Manchester bitter (on cask) which was in good condition. They also have a recently introduced craft IPA on keg (unavailable at the time of visit) Where this pub really shines is it's food. Whilst not the most comprehensive menu, what they do offer is superb! All hand/home made & fresh. I can recommened the starter chicken strips (3 x large!) Also, the mince beef plate pie or the cheese & onion pie, all of which are excellent. The service isn't always the fastest (as it can get busy) but its worth waiting for. On the cleanliness front, on the day of our visit everything was how it should be, including the toilets which were...
Read moreLovely little pub that's recently been taken over. Great service and the food was fine, however, price wise it is a bit over the top for what you actually get. A one course mixed meat Sunday Lunch is £24!! I was expecting two people to carry it out for that price! Dessert was £8 so all in all it's pricing itself out of the market for what you receive in my opinion. The previous visit it was very busy, this time was much quieter and that has to be, in some part, because of the pricing to...
