Sportsmans Inn — Restaurant in Calderdale

me and my daughter really fancied a nice Sunday lunch so we decided to go to the sportsman when we got their we saw that it had been refurbished and it looked beautiful, we took a seat and within 5 minutes a staff member came to us and asked what meat we wanted, we literally waited 15 minutes and their was no sign of anyone coming to tell us we may go to the carvery, so i went to them and asked when we could start getting are food the chef said "you can come now" so really i had to go ask my self when a member of staff should of told me. me and my daughter stood waiting whilst he cut our meat the chef looked so glum, it was like he was in a world of his own once we finally got our plates we tried to start getting our sides a few of the staff members just stood in the way talking about when they was gonna eat it was very rude, and off putting. over all i very much dislikes the food it was plain and bland and needs a lot of improvements! we had a meal at the sportsman about six mouths ago and the meat was sliced nice and thick and all the vegetables was very tasty today all the vegetables was so watery, and the gravy was very bland with no flavor also the meat was cut as fin as it could possibly get. on a closing note please please improve your Sunday carvery because its such a shame considering how nice the refurbishment...

Called in around noon for some food. It's reasonable in terms of value. The brisket was lovely, very tender. Proper Yorkshire pudding and a nice rich gravy. The burger was a good size, but a little dry. More sauce would have been better. I prefer my burgers a little less done than it was, it helps keep it juicy. I wasn't asked how I would like it cooked.

The staff were friendly and attentive, very welcoming, but maintained professionalism.

There wasn't much of an atmosphere, as it was very quiet, due to the time. There was some ambient music on, and I can imagine it being a good atmosphere peak times.

Car park is plenty big enough and it is easy to find.

I'd go again and would recommend it for other people who might be passing and looking for...

Visited with family as we use to go all the time before moving to the next town. Ordered Mixed Grill at £25, the plate was extremely well presented accompanied with a dish of chips & small jug of peppercorn sauce, sadly to my surprise most of the meats were over done except the pork chop and sausage, chicken was dry, steak & gammon was tough and excessively chewy, expected a bit more precision for the cost.

The steak & Ale pie was very well presented and reportedly went down a treat.

Staff were a bit hit and miss, almost like you’re not there, except for the one waitress who clearly made a good effort.
