This place is something special.

We stumbled across it whilst taking the scenic route home from a trip. The actual building is a bit unassuming from the outside, but the pub does feature a car park and small outside seating area.

Inside, the pub is fantastic. Incredibly warm and cosy. Fantastic old features. We were greeted by friendly staff, who directed us to a table.

The pub is linked to Timothy Taylor’s brewery, so has some fantastic beer on offer.

More impressive is the menu. This pub offers a wide range of food for a venue which is relatively small. Starters of prawn cocktail and chicken liver pâte were exceptional. Really simple, but done so well.

We attended on a Sunday so tried the Beef Brisket Sunday roast, with a side of cauliflower cheese. Again, phenomenal. Each individual part was cooked perfectly. The taste of everything, from the mash potatoes, to the buttery soft brisket was genuinely outstanding.

We were extremely happy with it all. Atmosphere was great. Staff were lovely. We honestly couldn’t ask for more. We’ll be back, and with...

We went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and the pub was not that busy.

It's a cosy pub with a large fireplace and is very warm and welcoming, with the bar at the front and the restaurant at the back - with all the old timey pub trinkets from days gone by.

I had the Fish and Chips (normal portion), and the fish was MEGA size. Now I like my food but even I couldn't finish it - it was that big! The fish was nice and moist with the batter crispy and tasty. The only issue was the chips. Some of the chips were so big that they hadn't been fully cooked inside and were too crispy on the outside - but for the price and portion size I could look past that.

The young girl serving us was very chirpy and polite, a great asset to the pub. If you are going to eat at Dinner rather than lunch, it's best that you book - it fills up quick!

Also, the pub does have a car park but it's aprox 50 meters before the pub (If you're coming from Tod) so make sure you...

Went here yesterday. Sometime back in November/ December 2019! The surrounding were cosy and the food was awesome! I had a roast pork dinner and my partner and her brother had roast beef. His partner had the vegetarian pie. Our food was lush. The mashed potatoes were amazing. For pudding I had the cornflake tart with custard. Absolutely melt in the mouth delicious. Very reasonably priced too! The staff were friendly and their was a good choice of ales. 10/10 and to quote the Terminator ‘I’ll Be BACK! Thank you. So, two years later….. on Sunday 28th November 2021 we managed to get back here! Awesome beef roast dinner, a couple….. ok, three pints of Boltmaker and a lovely Cornflake pud with loadsa custard. Really really lovely staff and surroundings. It is a lovely welcoming pub in every way possible. Hopefully be back sooner than last...

Actually the best welcome ever! When arriving soaked to the skin in any place with one’s bike, many places won’t really much want you in their establishment.. (maybe understandably) but at the Staff of Life, the women we met were adorably hospitable and helpful. We’d missed the kitchen so we fueled on bar snacks and delicious tea by their fire, and we dried off. The locals were also very friendly and came to chat. Really grateful for the place to stop and recoup somewhat and for a safe place to store our bikes while we did. This is a real pub with the kind of atmosphere and warmth set by genuine kind people. More than anything, thank you ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
