I stayed here for one night on my own as was visiting family in Nearby Halifax I didn't want the most basic accommodation such as the old Post Office but also didn't want to shell out over one hundred pounds to spend one night.I originally booked a single room but it was too chilly in there and I asked for another room,Matthew the manager or owner helped me out kindly and gave me the Anne Walker suite, which is a large room with big double bed and separate compact bathroom with shower which worked fine. The room had a lovely warm radiator plus a plug in oil heated radiator so the room was toasty warm! I didn't use the tv or tea and coffee making kit.The room was clean but not spotless but it was fine for me and the bedding was clean.I had a couple of drinks downstairs in the bar area of the pub and a bar meal of jacket potato with salad,it was delicious I think it was the best jacket potato I've ever had! Well presented and with lots of melted cheese and lots of tasty salad.and only cost £6.50 ish.On this night which was a Wednesday there was a regular quiz night which was free and a lot of locals mostly elderly were there and they were friendly and welcoming to me as I joined in.Breakfast is £12 extra which consists of a hot drink and a delicious quality cooked English breakfast very tasty,I think it could be enhanced by serving cereals and fruit juice.I definitely intend to stay again! And soon.id advise solo patrons to pay the extra £15 or so and book a double room! You get what you pay for! If you want five star luxury that is fine but you'll get it elsewhere at a premium price. Thanks again to Matthew for helping me get a room...

It would seem that the Stump Cross has gone down hill since I last ate there in 2016-ish. The interior now looks very tired, there is tape sticking down carpets, it feels very sparse. All in all, it feels like a down-market Toby Carver but more expensive (and you don’t get any food, more to follow on that)!
We went for a Sunday roast however it was just a bog-standard carvery. Not to worry we thought, the menu online seems to imply quite “posh” food. On the contrary, the Sunday offering is variations of carvery meats with vegetables, and a small selection of other less impressive dishes.
Ultimately, we both decided on the Yorkshire pudding wrap, containing beef and gravy, with some roast potatoes on the side. I can’t tell you what it was like, because we waiting almost an hour and no food arrived; we had asked several times and were repeatedly told it was coming out in five minutes…
In the end, we rang another restaurant to ensure availability, and told the waitress to cancel the order and left.
I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but my question is, how can it take almost an hour to put some already cooked meat, in a (most likely) already prepared/cooked Yorkshire pudding and put that on a plate of already cooked potatoes… the pub was serving a carvery!
The nice lady at the bar was sympathetic and waved the cost for the coffee and coke we’d had. Some sort of service recovery there at least?
We definitely will not be returning or...
