This is pretty much your only real option at Addie’s concourse if you want something freshly cooked — instead of grabbing Burger King or the usual packaged meals from M&S
I’ve eaten here many times and tried just about everything on different days — from the £2 pasta to the £7 pilav rice and kofta. I honestly have no idea how the pricing works or who decides it. Someone please explain that logic!
Be warned: if you ask to remove something from a meal, you might actually get charged more. For example, if you don’t want chips, they’ll leave them out — but you’ll pay extra. So, you end up taking chips you don’t want just to avoid wasting money (and then wasting food instead). Makes no sense at all.
They serve food in either takeaway containers or porcelain plates for eating in. There’s also some new sustainable takeaway system that needs you to register first.
I’m not going to comment much on taste since that’s been said plenty of times by others. What I will talk about is cleanliness, because that’s what really worries me here.
There have been times I’ve had mild stomach issues after eating here. Maybe coincidence, maybe not — but I’ve noticed a few things that don’t look great hygiene-wise: • Hospital staff often sit in uniform and place arms, phones, etc. on tables. • In over a year, I’ve only seen tables being wiped down a handful of times — infection control? • The serving area is wide open to people walking past and talking right next to the food. • Staff talk while serving, sometimes directly over open trays. • Rush hours look chaotic, and it feels like hygiene steps get skipped to keep up. • Some of the serving pots and dishes are clearly worn down — chipped, scratched, or coated with what looks like old residue. • And sometimes the food on display looks suspiciously like leftovers from the previous day, though I can’t be sure.
After all this time, I’ve seen zero improvement — just new posters, colourful menus, and the same problems repeating.
It’s honestly disappointing because staff and patients don’t have many alternatives here. I really hope management actually looks into...
Read moreI am staying here at Addenbrookes with my little boy who's just had surgery. The breakfast was basic but such good value, sausage, hash brown, bacon, scrambled egg and mushroom, 2 slices of toast and a cuppa for £6.60! Comes in a little takeaway box which if you don't like food mixing I wouldn't recommend. The staff are super friendly and I didn't have to wait to be served either. I haven't tried other meals as I brought my own with such a long stay here but before we go home I shall try a meal! The curry looks gorgeous today!...

This...
