Rising Sun Beltinge — Restaurant in Canterbury

My wife and I booked a meal for our daughter son in law and granddaughter. We arrived early for our 14.00 booking and ordered promptly . 45 mins later still no sign of our starters or the kids meal we asked for. Our 3 year old granddaughter is now getting restless and disturbing other diners. . Three of the main courses on the menu were unavailable. There was no soda for my wife's drink .. Starters arrived mediocre nothing special. But you can't mess up patè and soup can you. We asked the poor girl serving us on how long we will have to wait for our main course. Unfortunately she was unable to get us this information. So we left . I only see my daughter occasionally and this spoilt an otherwise nice day. Other diners were complaining and the people next to us got the wrong puddings. Give this place a wide bearth. We spoke to someone in the car park apparently it's been like this for a while. I telephoned the pub to make sure I didn't have to book a table for a drink only. A lady called Hayley answered & said no it would be fine to come to the pub. Only reason I telephoned was the weather was heavy rain I didn't want to walk half a mile with my umbrella. When I arrived with my partner was a very nice welcome. Service was very attentive. If your staying at a chain hotel nearby I would highly recommend the half mile walk. Only takes 15 minutes. A pleasant evening with draught ales if you like them. Not often I give 5 stars. I hadn’t been to the Rising Sun since it last changed ownership but what a difference! The food (we had roasts) was amazing. Normally, nothing compares to a home-cooked roast, but this was the best roast I’ve eaten out in a long time. The beef was full of flavour and a good cut, the veggies cooked to perfection and the roast potatoes and Yorkshire puds were delicious!
