Smugglers Inn — Restaurant in Canterbury

It didn’t feel welcoming at all. Locals blocking the entrance to the bar, meaning everyone had to walk between them and their conversation.

The bar staff were fine but were so busy that it took a while to be served (only about 6 customers in the pub on a Friday lunchtime!).

The beer options are good and the food looked ok from what I saw a table order. Lots of outdoor seating which is lovely in the good weather!

We will try it again one day but...

Big old fashioned boozer with a public bar (with a pool table and darts) on one side and a ever so slightly more comfy saloon bar on the other. Two Sheps ales on handpump.

It's difficult to know whether the Smugglers suffers or benefits from being over the road from the Butcher's Arms. My party went in there having just found that Butcher's didn't...

My family and I had my mums wake here today and the smugglers put on a wonderful spread for us. We had one of the bars to ourselves and they have a really beautiful garden and excellent disabled access. They looked after us really well with the food and service and I cannot thank them enough.
