A typical country pub that thinks it can charge London money. The food is no more than average in my opinion and the portions are small. Regardless my mam likes the place and we eat here regularly as a family and have spent well over 1000£ here. However. This isn't my problem with this place, it is, unfortunately the staff. We arrived as a party of 9 early for a prebooked table. The food took over an hour to arrive despite tables that arrived later getting there food and drinks. During this time not a single waitress came to our table, with all of our glasses remaining empty for a good half hour before one eventually came. 20 mins after this we received our drinks, by which time I had practically finished my half plate of roast for 18£. My grandfather fortunately discovered what appeared to be some sort of rock hard stalk over 2inch long in his stuffing before he bit into it and probably broke a tooth. During this time a table of 4 was sat opposite us. This is the funny bit. After complaining to the waitress about the exceptionally poor service and the foreign object in the food, we were met with eye rolls and the waitress looking over to the new table of 4. Turns out she knew them and didn't think anybody would see the looks she's was giving them as if we were awkward customers and we just wanted a discount. This was followed by the table whispering and pointing in our direction which made the older members of my family very uncomfortable and my missis raging. How she didn't dash a drink in there direction I'll never know. I never got the waitresses name but she was serving a prebooked table under sullivan at 5.15 if it helps. Will never go back to this place again. Ever. Absolutely disgusted. A discount was given eventually after searching high and low for a manager, however I feel a price of 0 would have been closer to what we received. On our way...
Read moreWe went the The George and Dragon at Fordwich for Christmas this year 2015, as we had an excellent meal there the previous year. Whether the pub has changed hands or changed chef I don't know but there couldn't have been a bigger contrast, from 5 star we couldn't give it half a star and, at £70.00 per head it’s not funny. The whole meal took over 3 hours and still no coffee and hot mince pies. The starters were luke warm, and pretty inedible, my pigeon breast was over cooked and so rubbery my little grandson could have played ball with it, the others were just as bad and the scallops my daughter’s partner had gave him stomach ache and the runs all the next day. The main courses were barely warm and we had to ask for more roast potatoes. The sweet was a joke the runny meringue on top of the 'Baked Alaska' must have been made by a five year old and after waiting a further 30 minutes we gave up on the coffee and mince pies. So we paid for our drinks and left after complaining to the lady behind the bar who admitted they were short staffed. Not for £70.00 per head should they have been. Now here's the salt in the wound, when we arrived home there was a message on the answerphone saying we had paid for the drinks but not for the meal. We had under their insistence paid by cash two weeks earlier and had the receipt! My wife phoned them and told the assistant manager this who promised that the general manager would phone...............we are still waiting. Obviously they just want your money and not repeat business, please avoid this establishment like the plague, they will charge well over the top and give you second rate service and food. They completely ruined are Christmas. Thank...
Read more2* merely based on the fact that the restaurant is absolutely beautiful and idllyic. We have visited on many occasions but this evening has left our party with a pretty sour taste in our mouths and we will not be returning, that's for certain!
We turned up to a prebooked table of 9 and despite arriving 30mins early to allow for any delays, we still waited well over an hour for our meals. Within this hour, we were not offered any beverages and in fact, did not see a waitress for that duration - when we eventually got offered a drink we were then made to wait 20mins for those drinks to arrive to the table! All this with an 18month old to keep entertained - how fun!
One of the meals had a long stem of some description in the stuffing which had it not been discovered, could easily have broken a tooth!! When we made the waitress aware of this her general attitude was dismissive as though this was part of the meal - she told us that it was nothing untoward. Maybe not but it's definitely not desirable in a roast dinner you've just paid well over the odds for.
We made a complaint at the end of our meal as the service quite frankly wasn't up to scratch in any area only to be made a joke of between the waitresses friends who had just been seated opposite us! We were told that all of the chaos was due to a bridge being closed.. I've just travelled 80 miles all round so in my opinion, this comment is pretty redundant!
So The George and Dragon, before you dismiss your regular customers concerns and make them feel unwanted.. I hope this review reminds you of the power of a negative experience! 9 unhappy customers (in this case) can and probably will result in quite a few of...
