We arrived at the Butler Henderson (BH) cafe at approx. midday on Saturday, July 6, 2024. BH had a sea of waiting customers and seemingly a large number of young staff members who appeared to be in need of managing as there was poor organisation, with staff standing around doing litte or nothing, while customers were told there were lengthy waits - even for a simple cup of takeaway tea. To our surprise, despite it being lunchtime on a Saturday there were no sandwiches in the chiller waiting for customers - only cold drinks. To her credit, the young lady on the till was polite and honest about the lengthy delays for food. Feeling peckish, we asked if there was anything at all we could buy to take with us for the train and she pointed out the pre-packed eccles cakes, so we pruchased two of them - fortunately we had brought a bottle of water with us. However, after getting our tickets, we discovered the NAAFI tea room on the platform, a hidden gem, located on the Loughborough-bound platform under the staircase. In the NAAFI, the lady behind the counter was friendly and promptly served us a delicious roll with a tea. If you want a snack and a brew, go to the NAAFI - it will now be our go-to place for refreshments at this...
ย ย ย Read moreAttended for a weekend event (16-17th August) Staff and manager specifically told to keep facilities open as they had a band on till gone 10pm and you know seeing as it is the LAW to do so, instead they closed and locked the toilets at 4:30pm. People and children had to do their business up the walls behind the cafe. Absolutely despicable. Staff are rude and donโt care, you order a panini and get given a roll because they ran out but canโt be bothered to tell you theyโve run out but give it to you anyway. The male chef makes run of you in the kitchen for complaining, I actually heard him mocking the customer backstage in the kitchen as he wasnโt told theyโd run out of paninis. Since new ownership itโs gone down hill. Over priced breakfast, better off walking over the road to the Manor and getting...
ย ย ย Read moreThe staff here are very friendly but I found the cooked breakfasts disappointing and frankly grossly overpriced for what we were given. Only one small piece of bacon, one sausage and one egg which was just as well as I was doubtful about its freshness to be honest - with a fresh egg the white stands proud around the yolk - the one I received didnโt have that. There were also beans mushrooms and one hash brown. When I compared it to the fare offered on the train it proved lacking. The full English breakfast available on the train was far better, more plentiful, better cooked and cheaper too, so I think weโll be eating on the train next time. Shame as I really wanted to...
