We had some friends visiting from France so after a really nice walk around Watermead Lakes and the River we stopped here for a drink. We couldn't find anywhere to sit as all the tables had empty glasses or dirty plates on them - never the less we went to order some drinks. The bar itself was a mess with empty glasses and spilled drinks over most of it. There was only one person serving and he was well fed up and complaining to a customer that another member of staff had called in sick so he had to come in and work. Eventually we had our turn and ordered some drinks which were given to us with zero effort. I then asked for some crisps which were plonked down in front of me in a puddle of beer. The whole thing was pathetic and embarrassing. After clearing a table of used glasses and plate outside we sat down and for the whole hour we were there we saw no effort to clear any tables or clear up the general mess. We had planned to eat at the pub ourselves but soon decided not to after looking at the overflowing bin and the cigarette ends on the floor which had clearly been there for weeks. When is somebody going to get this pub working? It was a sunny afternoon during the school holidays and the place was a shambles with no staff and those that were there were fed up. We will not be returning.

We sat outside and ordered our meal and paid for it using the app to reduce the number people going inside to order due to Covid-19. We had to ask someone to clean our table after 10 minutes waiting as staff were busy talking, also there were no hand soap in the toilets. We had 4 meals from the Big Plates Specials section and all been presented nicely but tasted horrible and every single one of them had an issue. 1) Jumbo scampi with green peas (didn't taste right and peas were hard) 2) Big Plate Special Chicken New Yorker (chicken was chewy, tasteless and very dry) 3) Crispy Chicken Sandwich (chicken was burned) 4) Quadzilla burger ( it got served in green buns, when asked why they said they ran out of normal burger buns, but didn't bother to ask the customer if he is OK with it and if they have any allergies, also green buns were soggy, and all the meat in the burger was tasteless) Also during our meal we were not asked if everything was OK with our meal and if we needed anything.

Just came across this excellently placed pub. Sitting on the side of a lovely little river (with many canal boats parked alongside). It has a fantastic outside dining area with plenty of easy parking. Has your standard pub favourites plus a few interesting additions. But I couldn't go past the 8oz steak with a choice of 2 sides (Wednesday special = £8.00) the steak was excellent cooked med rare as I wanted. It missed out on 5 stars as there were a number of items not available but the excellent server did say they had been very busy during lunch because of the lovely weather, so a number of popular items had just sold out. Which I can understand as it is a lovely place to sit outside for a meal. I will be going back!

While the food and drink prices are very reasonable, you really do get what you pay for. The food was sub-standard and the service deplorable.

The sharing platter starter came with 2 very dry chicken goujons. These were immensely different sizes with one goujon about 1/2 of the size of the other. The chicken wings were also dry and tasteless. Although, I did like the battered jalapenos but it did almost seem unnecessary to batter them.

The lasagna came with a tiny bit of garlic bread. To be fair, there was two slices of it (as advertised), however, it looked like they had just cut one slice into two. They did, however, reluctantly, replace the garlic bread with two larger slices. The burgers were also moderately burnt and quite tough.

The staff showed little bother or care for their work. The waitress serving us failed to bring extra napkins and cutlery (which she herself offered to bring) and failed to bring over a jug of water which we had requested for over 25 minutes. The bar had quite long queues yet for most of our visit just one lack-lustre employee ran the bar while others appeared to just stand around waiting to deliver the very occasional food order.

All in all, I would not advise visiting this Hungry-Horse pub. While the prices are great, the service is terrible, the staff don't care and the food is...

Really pleased to see the Hope and Anchor back open, but sadly had a bad experience. Visited last Saturday in hope to have food. Was told kitchen problems, minimum of an hour wait- fair enough so went elsewhere. Did enjoy a nice pint though!

Wanted to give the place a second chance and saw the menu online, which looked great! Ordered 2 burgers today and took payment, was over charged after working the bill out. So queried it and got the money back. 5 minutes later was told no burgers, so re ordered different meals. There was a price difference in the new meals, which again I had to ask for the money back! Food took a while to come, people ordering after us had their food before us! Food arrived and wasn’t as described on the menu, with missing onion rings and pineapple with the gammon. No one came over to ask if our food was ok. If you don’t have these things in stock, fair enough but tell your customers first! Had to wait a while for sauce too which were given in rationed pots. Went to use the toilets, no soap provided. The tables were really sticky and dirty too. It’s a real shame but I think that people need to be aware of what to expect when dining here! I want the place to do well and this is not a hate post, but things need improving if you want...
