Bartellas Restaurant — Restaurant in Chelmsford

We were booked in for 7.30pm on a Saturday night and the restaurant was almost empty...not a good sign. The service was good apart from a couple issues which I'll get to. Menu is good, my starter though...the crumbled Stilton with poached pear had virtually zero Stilton and I counted 8 cashew nuts...mainly green salad. Main course was fish and chips was excellent except I had to ask for the tartar sauce . My desert was the ginger treacle pudding but was too small, it was actually smaller than the scoop of ice cream it was served with. Our waitress commented that we soon finished our deserts. I should have replied that such a tiny desert doesn't take long to eat. A whopping 12.5% service charge was added to our bill. No surprise that they have so few customers on a...

We celebrated my nans 90th birthday with the hotel in 2020 and have returned to the restaurant again this year for a family dinner. The staff can not do any more for us. They are so willing to help and want to go the extra mile.

We have some dietary requirements, all the staff are so knowledgeable about the menu and are happy to swap out items if required.

Knowing it was my nans birthday they decorated a plate wishing her a happy birthday with homemade truffles for everyone. Such a lovely gesture! Thank you Bartellas.

Only down side, there wasn't a table large enough for 13 people so we had to split up on 2 tables, not the biggest problem as after we had eaten with all squished around 1, but would have been nice to all...

Absolutely fantastic! We came here for a mother's day weekend treat and it was wonderful. We were skeptical that it wouldn't be because we made assumptions as it's attached to a hotel, if you're thinking that too - you couldn't be more wrong. Bartellas is a hidden gem. The prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is nice, the surroundings are lovely and the staff are wonderful!

That's not even mentioning the food, which was phenomenal! Everyone really enjoyed it and Lorna couldn't do enough for us. It was a fantastic evening and we cannot wait to come back.
