Olio on the Green — Restaurant in Chelmsford

We have never visited this restaurant before and live about a 30 minute drive away but our experience was a lovely one. From the moment we stepped inside staff were very helpful and friendly. Our original table for 6 was just as you walked in by the door and the bar on the r/h side of the restaurant. There were people all around the tables and the door Wass constantly being opened and closed. I asked if we could have another table and the waiter straight away said he would sort something out for our group. We ended up with a lovely oval table at the far end of the restaurant - thank you! The evening continued to go in the same vain - the atmosphere was buzzing. The noise was quite loud but it was lovely to be in an environment full of people enjoying themselves. The service was second to none the whole evening. We were constantly being checked on, our glasses topped up but not in a obtrusive way. Everything was done discreetly and in a gentle manner. We lunched at Olio's with good friends who chose the venue, theirs was an excellent recommendation. The staff at the restaurant greeted us warmly and showed us to our table in dining area which is thoughtfully laid out. They were also very patient while our group worked through the menu and especially the "Specials" page of it. Of the Starters available, Sardines were the most favoured and they were good, no complaints at all. For the Mains the majority opted for the Monkfish and were very pleased with the size of the portion of the meaty fish. Skate wing was also chosen and its size gave no reason for disagreeable comments. All of the dishes were beautifully cooked and presented. We were delighted with our first visit to Olio's and there is no doubt a second will take place, probably in the near future. Would we recommend Olio's? Yes! It is justly popular and it is best to book a table ahead of the proposed visit. I cannot fault the curtious and attentive service given by the staff. Food quality was good and reasonably priced. However I felt very uncomfortable with their Covid restriction measures. It was a crowded and very noisy environment, although most staff were wearing appropriate masks and disinfecting appropriately, distancing between tables was inadequate. Staff could not pass between tables with any ease, frequently having to brush against customers as they moved through the restaurant. Their Covid restrictions do not adequately follow national guidelines. I have recently been to other restaurants of the same quality that have Covid measures in place and made me feel comfortable, this establishment failed to put in place sufficient measures to ensure my safety.
