Unfortunately I need to share a very disappointing experience with the food in this place. My family visited to celebrate my son’s birthday yesterday evening (21/11/23). I ordered a medium rare steak which was not only an awful cut of meat, it was cooked very poorly. My wife ordered a simple veggie burger which should have come with chips. However, the waitress brought all the food out and said the chef had dropped the chips on the floor (even though I saw her drop chips on the floor). We then had to wait a good 10 minutes for more chips to appear by which time was too late as my wife could not wait so the burger was eaten without chips. When they did arrive, she apologised and said she had forgotten to bring them as they were stuck on the side. Ironically, they were undercooked and hard. I last visited the Greatfield for food about 5 years ago and it was terrible then. In fact having complained back then, I was sent a £10 voucher which I just could not bring myself to spend and pour more good money after bad. In addition, I was warned about the dreadful quality of the steaks here just last week but foolishly ordered one. My disappointment is on 2 levels: 1. If your chef is unable to cook steak properly, please don’t sell it 2. Please train / empower your staff to turn a bad situation into a good one. My wife’s meal should have been refunded. THAT’S good customer service and I would have been writing about that. In contrast, the Hatherley pub 15 minutes walk away do absolutely superb food! Never ever had a bad meal there. I hope you are able to take the positive out of the feedback. Love the atmosphere, great staff, great beer but Im afraid next time we will be swerving your food!!!!

The Greenfield is one of those predictably reliably warm and inviting pubs. The food is always good, portions are generous and the staff are professional and kind. Theres a mix of single drinkers and family diners. We dined as a couple with a toddler and enjoyed the curry night deal. I had the onion bhsjis too and they weren’t greasy like sone and served as a portion of 5-6. The dipping sauce as lovely too. My husband had the lamb koftas and jet been steal obe. They’ll be my choice next time. Two pieces of naan bread was too much for be with the big side dish but it was all well cooked and tasty.

2 friends on a weekend trip, after walking loads we googled, with discount foods. A Delight 😊 Place, lovely smiles on reception and service. The food was fresh 😋 cooked and hearty. We sat outside on such a pleasant day looking into the distantly hills for a walk 🚶‍♀️ 🚶‍♀️tomorrow. We had calamari, tomato soup (made on site) with lovely warm fresh made bread, fish & chips with mushy peas and garlic dip. Desrt was spot on, mouthwatering , sticky toffee pudding with ice cream apple pie with ice cream so fresh and warm. This is what eating out should be all about.

Everytime I come here I hope things will improve.... I tried to apply a 20% blue light discount card to the food bill. It was put through, and was only 5%. Staff member were totally disinterested in sorting it out. Check your bill carefully because they don't. Food was average to poor...again !

Edit:- I feel it's important to address to points raised.

  1. We had both the physical card and app on the phone. When I said we wanted to apply the blue light card, I was told that was fine, and when prompted again, the barman wasn't interested in altering the application of it in respect of the bill (who ever heard of a two tiered discount system for the same discount, this is absolute nonsense). When I questioned the itemised bill upon payment, I was yet again shown indifference by both the barman, and who I assume to be the manageress.
  2. This was the first time we had attempted to use the blue light card in the Greatfield, so it's disingenuous to claim otherwise.
  3. You can call meal from fixed price menu a 'discounted' one, but the reality is that there is no indication of a 'discount' by percentage or otherwise anywhere in the printed menus.
  4. The kitchen was slow, the food had been sat under a heater and dried up for much longer than someone trying to build a reputation for a business they have recently taken over, and my starter was tasteless using obviously cheaper ingredients.
  5. Who would want to complain about the quality of the food, or the demeanour of the staff when being repetedly rebuffed upon questioning the bill. I gave you my opinion as we left, warned you I would be leaving a review, and stated you would not see my business again. We have used the blue light card in many other establishments, and had no problem with the quality of food, the demeanour of the staff, or correct application of the blue light system. If you are unwilling to process the blue light system correctly, I'd suggest you withdraw from pretending to engage with it, or get yourself and your staff some proper training in how to use it. Despite your 21 years of experience, you have learned very little about...

It all started so well, then became a disaster. I headed to The Greatfield for Sunday Lunch with two friends. They offer a great deal with Sunday Lunch for £13.99. We were sat by a lovely member of staff and then placed our orders and got drinks (great beer!). However, that's where the problems started. After half an hour, our starters turned up. They were perfectly adequate. After starters we waited an hour until I queried with the lovely bar staff where our food was. We were informed that the kitchen were just plating it up. Another 10 minutes passed and I asked again and was told that they were just waiting for one more thing. Another 10 minutes passed and the food arrived. The veg were wrinkled and black, the roasties were solid and the whole lot was stone cold. I commented to the lad serving us and he went to fetch someone to come and talk to us. The lady who was perhaps the manager came out. She was clearly very stressed and to be honest quite dismissive when she came to see us. I commented that the food was cold and we weren't happy. She said she was going to refund us. She then came over with a card machine asking for payment for the drinks and the starters. I said no to that, as we wouldn't have had any drinks or starters if we weren't in for a meal. We had turned up for lunch and weren't having it and in fact were going to have to go and buy food to cook at home. She was then very rude. When I tried to approach her again as we were leaving she effectively tried to make the whole thing my fault because I'm "not considering the challenges in the hospitality industry". I feel that having waited over an hour for our food, expecting hot food wasn't too much to ask and was in fact very considerate. We left it there and my friends, who have visited before have said that they won't be returning. Its such a shame as the bar staff were lovely and the pub...
