Olde House — Restaurant in Chesterfield

We arrived to find out that the main dining area was closed off as you'd put a wedding in there. We'd booked a table for 8 a week in advance and even the day before were reminded by email which did not mention the closing off of main dining area. On arrival we were shown to a small oval table close to the bar which we had to squash around. We proceeded to order using the app to find many menu choices not available. We eventually placed the £135 order. A minute later a lady came out and read back the order. She confirmed a couple of notes We'd made - that we wanted the vegan strip starters to come out with the mains (as the option for vegan straps with mac cheese was not available on the mains menu but we could order the starter???). About 15 minutes passed and the starters started to come out along with all the mains! We protested that why were they bringing mains with starters and they said we'd indicated this, which we certainly did not! They took mains back to kitchen but they'd forgotten 2 prawn cocktail starters which came 5 mins later along with the kids main we'd asked for. Kids main of sausage and mash was missing gravy - but we did not complain. We had not finished starters when they came to table to ask if we'd finished and wanted our mains. We said no and requested a 5 minute break. Mains came out - they were same ones that had come earlier and had been sat keeping warm. We noticed that the lasagne was missing the garlic bread mentioned on menu so I got up and asked for it. 5 minutes later we got the garlic bread and woman implied it was our fault for pressing something wrong on order which we had not!!! Food was poor quality. Steak pie was dry and crust rock hard and came with a massive gravy boat on plate for one person. Child did not eat sausage then we noticed it was a smoked sausage which was not mentioned on menu. Garlic bread was pale and soggy. Burgers were OK. We'd tried to order a side of fries for mains but wasn't available on online menu yet fries came with burgers??? This was a birthday treat for my pregnant daughter and overall we had a very stressful and unenjoyable meal which was poor quality and a waste of money along with 8 of us being crushed on a small table...

Attended a family funeral today so decided to travel over yesterday, and booked 2 rooms for the 4 of us. Arrived approximately 1430 hours, booked in upon arrival quickly and efficiently by Terry. Came down to the bar area later for a few drinks and a meal. I had sirloin steak cooked exactly as requested. My Mum and cousin had fish chips. Huge fish which they struggled to finish. My other cousin had the gammon. If the plate would have had a pattern on it he would have taken that with it. He demolished the lot. Terry was still on duty and took the time to come over, sat and had a conversation with us. She told us the history of the pub, and it's origins. Proper belly laughed with her, she was such good company. Drinks competitively priced. Room was spotless, had everything we needed. Wonderful big bath which I took the opportunity to use. If I had one criticism it would be to perhaps fixing grab handles on the wall, or the bath. Extremely comfortable nights sleep. Next morning we went down to breakfast. Unfortunately I forgot to get the name of our server, but she could not have been anymore helpful. She gave us the impression that she was a grafter with her workload. Started duty at 0530 hours cleaning, serving and I think going on to service the rooms. All of the staff were so pleasant and accommodating. We got married here on Saturday 5th August 2023 and had the best day of our lives! Highly recommended for any couple searching for the right place to tie the knot!

We had our whole wedding day here, starting with our ceremony in The Needham Room followed by our reception in The Mullen Suite. The whole day was very well organised and everything went to plan as we imagined. The food was amazing, we chose to have the hot cobs buffet for our main wedding meal (they also have the option to have a 2/3 course meal too) and it did not disappoint - extremely good value for money and included a large selection of food and high quality meat for our guests. We heard nothing but compliments from our guests about how amazing the food was. For our evening guests we chose to have the cold buffet, which again was amazing quality and value for money.

We can't thank everyone enough at The Olde House for the exceptional service you gave us on our big day. Especially to Julie (manager) and Tracy (events manager) for everything you did for us such as calming our nerves before the ceremony and making sure everything was perfect for us - you were truly incredible.

We highly recommend The Olde House for your wedding day, it is very affordable compared to most wedding venues and offers exceptional service - they make your wedding day exactly how you want it to be!
